Key duties and responsibilities
- Equipment operation: Set up, configure, and operate specialized pilot plant machinery, following process instructions, batch sheets, and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This includes handling raw materials and processing products.
- Safety and compliance: Enforce all safety rules, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and participate in safety programs. This also includes maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment.
- Data and documentation: Collect samples for testing, perform basic lab analyses, and accurately record and input all process information and production data.
- Maintenance and troubleshooting: Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance on equipment. Utilize troubleshooting skills to resolve process deviations and address related problems.
- Collaboration and support: Work closely with engineers, scientists, and other technicians to support R&D operations, experiments, and production.
- Process improvement: Assist in developing and documenting SOPs and identify opportunities for plant and process optimization.
- Material handling: Load and unload materials from containers like drums, bags, and totes.
- Technical skills: Ability to operate and troubleshoot industrial and mechanical equipment, and familiarity with process control systems like DCS or PLC is often required.
- Safety consciousness: A strong commitment to safety, including chemical handling, hazard awareness, and emergency response.
- Analytical skills: Ability to collect and interpret data and conduct basic laboratory tests.
- Attention to detail: Crucial for accurate data recording, following instructions, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Computer proficiency: Basic to intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software, are necessary for data entry and documentation.
- Physical ability: Ability to lift and move materials, stand for extended periods, and work in various conditions, which may include heat.
- Experience: Prior experience in a manufacturing, plant, or laboratory environment is typically required.
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is standard, but technical training or a degree in a science or related field is often preferred.
