A Day in the Life:

As an Accounting Specialist with the Humane Society, you'll play a vital role in supporting our mission to save and improve the lives of animals every day. You'll start your morning reviewing financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring our records are accurate and up to date. Throughout the day, you'll collaborate with team members across departments, process invoices and payments, and help maintain the financial integrity that keeps our programs running smoothly.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • 2+ years of general accounting work experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and an understanding of internal controls.
  • Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; able to learn other software programs as necessary.
  • Sage Intacct Accounting Software usage is a plus.
  • Manage and process accounts payable and receivable with accuracy and timeliness
  • Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts
  • Assist with month-end closing and financial reporting
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Support budgeting and expense tracking for various departments
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes, occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Most time will be spent in a typical air-conditioned and heated office environment.
