Collaborates with Nursing Leadership and staff across departments to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, implement, facilitate, evaluate, and revise educational programming for all levels of nursing personnel and non-nursing personnel as indicated or requested. The Clinical Educator acts as a coordinator for new hire orientation and competencies as well as continuing education of staff at GVH.

The Clinical Educator implements a comprehensive education program for assigned units and clinics/ educational programs typically include, but are not limited to coordination of orientation, continuing education, and in-services as well as ongoing management of RQI and HealthStream.

Education: Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  Preferred: Master’s Degree in Nursing.

Experience: Minimum: 3 years related experience required in a clinical or clinical education setting.  Preferred: 5 years of relevant clinical nursing experience in an acute care setting
3 years of experience with orientation and education of nursing staff in a clinical setting.  For ambulatory areas, relevant experience in primary and specialty clinic settings

Microsoft office experience. Must be able to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner. Ability to give formal and informal presentations, occasionally in front of large groups.

Licenses/Certification: Current RN License

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
Experience in education program design and evaluation
Knowledge and experience in adult education principles
Evidence of excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Essential Functions:

  • Collects and assesses data and information related to education needs and other pertinent situations, including identification of trends, issues and supporting data to determine a comprehensive education program for assigned units/clinics including classroom, clinical experiences and learning technologies
  • Assesses plans, develops, implements, and evaluates comprehensive education programs to meet the orientation and ongoing competency needs and professional development needs of the Nursing Department leadership and staff.
  • Ensures all programs meet the Department of Nursing and regulatory expectations and standards. Adheres to national education practice standards and stays abreast of and incorporates current research into nursing education practice.

  • Provides consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development opportunities and mentorship opportunities
  • Plans, develops, and evaluates the preceptor program to enhance the orientation process and the retention of staff. Provides leadership to preceptors and serves as a role model through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring.
  • Work closely with Human Resources Department to partner as an Administrator of the Hospital’s Learning Management System (LMS), Healthstream. Coordinates with nursing leadership to manage clinical education contract and licensing. Reviews content and assigns appropriately within our contract limitations. Assists with inputting certifications, and monitoring compliance.

Compensation: $38.75 - $48.71/hr, depending on experience.
