About the team

The Technology team provides expertise and effective solutions to Penguin Random House. We integrate flexibility and agility which supports our consistent way of working. We set ourselves up for success by holding ourselves accountable and welcoming change. Each member of the Technology team brings skill and initiative to their role; we take personal ownership within a one team culture, working collaboratively to meet expectations from our stakeholders who trust us to deliver.

The role

We have a new opportunity to join our growing Technology team as our Creative and Content Engineer. This role is offered on a permanent basis with hybrid working (2 days per week onsite) from either our London or Colchester (Frating) offices.

Reporting to the Creative and Content Product Manager, as Creative and Content Engineer you’ll play a key role in shaping how we create, manage, and share our stories behind the scenes. You’ll be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimising Penguin Random House’s creative and content management platforms — including Adobe Creative Cloud, Box.com, Nasuni, and OneDrive.

With a blend of technical know-how and creative problem-solving, you’ll help to ensure our teams work smarter and more sustainably. By using automation, reporting, and AI-driven insights, you’ll make our platforms more efficient, keep our data secure, uphold our retention policies, and reduce “digital landfill.” In short, you’ll help us build a cleaner, faster, and more connected creative ecosystem.

Key responsibilities:

  • Create, test, and maintain integrations between creative and content platforms (Adobe Creative Cloud, Box.com, Nasuni, OneDrive) and internal systems, in order to streamline workflows and ensure seamless user experiences.
  • Conduct regular reviews of platform configurations, user access, and storage patterns to enable efficient resource utilisation and cost-effectiveness.
  • Identify and implement AI or automation tools to rationalise technical debt, reduce redundant data (“digital landfill”), and deliver valuable insights for business stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Information Security and Compliance teams to implement retention policies, protect sensitive content, and fulfil regulatory requirements.
  • Work alongside cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, Design, Product) to resolve platform-related issues promptly, enable smooth collaboration, and guide users on best practices.
  • Research emerging technologies and relevant industry trends to propose and implement enhancements that increase productivity and user satisfaction.
  • Develop and maintain reporting dashboards and metrics to track platform usage, identify improvement areas, and communicate value delivery to stakeholders.
  • Integrate, segregate and configure creative platforms to meet the needs of the business units.
  • Undertake software updates, testing and lifecycle activities to support the creative toolchain.

What you’ll bring

Essential criteria:

  • Basic scripting and coding abilities (e.g., Python, PowerShell, or other relevant languages) to automate processes and data manipulation.
  • Relevant experience of content management and collaboration platforms (such as Box.com, Nasuni, OneDrive) to administer, troubleshoot, and optimise usage.
  • Good understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., licensing, configuration, integrations) and its deployment within an enterprise environment.
  • Basic knowledge of AI/ML tools and techniques to identify opportunities for process automation and data rationalisation.
  • Solid grasp of IT security principles (e.g., encryption, access controls) and compliance standards (e.g., GDPR) to ensure data protection and regulatory alignment.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage best practices and retention policy frameworks to maintain data quality and minimise unnecessary storage costs.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams and present technical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
