Job Summary:
The Lean Systems Engineer is pivotal in identifying and eliminating waste across both manufacturing floors and administrative workflows. This role combines technical knowledge, data-driven insight, and proactive leadership to enhance efficiency, inventory accuracy, and product quality. The ideal candidate will possess electrical and mechanical engineering acumen and utilize lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration competencies to eliminate waste.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Job Requirements:
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
- Drive waste elimination through Common Sense Manufacturing (CSM) events, Byrne Agility Teams (BATs), and Kaizen workshops.
- Apply lean tools such as takt time analysis, value stream mapping, time studies, standard work, and plant layouts to enhance productivity and flow.
- Serve as a leader or sponsor on improvement projects with 1–3 month durations focused on tangible operational gains.
- Implement and advocate for permanent and proactive corrective actions (PCA) to prevent recurring issues.
Digital Transformation & Inventory Optimization
- Partner with stakeholders to optimize ERP/MRP systems (e.g., CSI 10), focusing on improving data integrity, inventory accuracy, and inventory reduction.
- Identify and eliminate digital process waste through better use of system functionality and cross-functional workflow alignment.
- Monitor and improve real-time data flows that drive material planning, manufacturing execution, and customer fulfillment.
Engineering Design & Quality Integration
- Use electrical and mechanical engineering principles to identify opportunities to design in quality, through poka-yoke (error-proofing) and other mistake-proofing techniques.
- Provide engineering support for production process improvements, root cause analysis, and product reliability enhancements.
- Drive initiatives that build quality at the source, reducing rework and scrap while ensuring safety and compliance.
Project Management & Communication
- Lead cross-functional teams through structured problem-solving and change management practices.
- Align project outcomes with key business metrics including inventory turnover, customer demand satisfaction, and process stability.
- Effectively communicate project scope, deliverables, and impact to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Experience gained through internships, co-ops, or academic projects in industrial engineering, preferably related to light manufacturing
- Ability to quickly learn lean manufacturing principles and concepts.
- Experience in CAD software for layout design and simulation tools for process optimization.
- Analytical skills with experience in data analysis and process improvement tools (e.g., Six Sigma, Kaizen).
- Problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with various teams
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
