Title: Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology (Non-Tenure)

Division: School of Education and Behavioral Sciences

Exempt, Full-time

11-month position

 

  1. Position Summary

The responsibilities of this position include coordinating the School Psychology practicum and internship clinical placement process, and assisting the Director of School Psychology in overseeing the School Psychology program, including: program assessment and evaluation for accreditation; recruitment and selection of prospective students; supporting adjunct instruction; and related faculty responsibilities. As a faculty member, the Assistant/Associate Professor is expected to actively participate in curriculum development and assessment, accreditation, and student-related activities (i.e., regular office hours).


This position is an on-campus position located in Oahu, Hawai`i.

Direct Report to: Dean of Education and Behavioral Sciences

  1. Duties and Responsibilities

The faculty member in this position will teach 21 load credit hours per year, coordinate the School Psychology practicum and internship clinical placement process, and assist with program evaluation, including accreditation. In addition to teaching, the role includes serving on program, division, and university committees; contributing to curriculum development; participating in accreditation activities; grant writing; and providing high-quality student advising. Other duties may be assigned by the Dean, consistent with the Faculty Handbook.

 

Essential Responsibilities

    • Teach 21 psychology-related load credit hours per year
    • Coordinate the School Psychology practicum and internship clinical placement process
    • Support Chaminade’s mission and strategic plan through program development and management.
    • Foster an environment that promotes academic and professional growth.
    • Provide leadership in program assessment and accreditation.
    • Market the program and assist with student recruitment and retention.

Curriculum

    • Participate in program assessment and integrate findings into program review.
    • Assist with curricular changes and yearly assessments.
    • Contribute to new program development and curriculum alignment.
    • Ensure courses meet program requirements and learning outcomes.

Program Management

    • Participate in regular department meetings to ensure communication and alignment with university initiatives.
    • Monitor enrollment trends for program sustainability.
    • Support student retention, progression, and graduation.
    • Maintain accurate student records and program documentation.
    • Address faculty, staff, and student concerns.
    • Collaborate with enrollment management and admissions on recruitment strategies.

Professional and Community Involvement

    • Promote the program in the community to enhance enrollment, scholarship, and internship opportunities.
    • Build partnerships with local associations, agencies, and organizations.
    • Encourage student engagement in professional organizations and internships.
    • Align curriculum with workforce needs to ensure relevance for undergraduate and graduate students.

  1. Education and Experience

Minimum

  • A doctoral degree in School Psychology, Education, Psychology, or a related field. If doctoral degree is not in School Psychology than an EdS or MA/MS degree in School Psychology with a related doctoral degree. 

Preferred

  • 2 years of Higher Education level teaching. National Certified School Psychologist. 1 year experience conducting cognitive, behavioral, and achievement tests in an educational or clinical setting.  

 

  1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with individuals at all levels of the university
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace applications, and/or related software
    • Excellent project management skills and ability to prioritize work and resources.
    • Ability to meet deadlines
    • Ability to interpret data and prepare reports
    • High integrity and ethical standards.

 

  1. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.  Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

 

  1. Other Requirements
    • Attend meetings and provide service as required for the program, school, university and area committees and work groups;
    • This is a full time, exempt position. Forty hours per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required.  Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends and a varying schedule.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Dean.
    • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner.
