Job Summary: The Central Sterile Processing Tech coordinates and collaborates the overall cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and dispensing of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies needed for daily surgical procedures in surgery and related departments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Control all parts of the sterilization process, including decontamination, preparation, packing, sterilization, and sterile storage.

  • Ensure documentation and recordkeeping for sterilization cycles, load contents, and equipment maintenance.

  • Maintain the integrity and sterility of all processed products and services provided to customers.

  • Collaborate with Surgical Services staff to ensure timely delivery of sterile products and equipment.

  • Maintain consistency and continuous workflow between the Operating Room (OR) and Central Sterile Processing, providing excellent internal and external customer service.

  • Operate and maintain sterilizing equipment, including autoclaves; record load details and maintenance activities.

  • Decontaminate, reprocess, and maintain flexible endoscopes and bronchoscopes in compliance with safety and infection control standards.

  • Monitor daily surgical schedules to identify and prepare for all equipment and instrument needs.

  • Assist with cleaning and turnover of operating rooms between cases, including terminal cleaning.

  • Provide assistance in pre-op and post-op areas as assigned.

  • Establish and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships across departments to ensure continuity of services.

  • Immediately report defective or malfunctioning equipment following proper procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and vision of the hospital.


Other Essential Functions

  • Complete all required education, competencies, and training by assigned deadlines.

  • Maintain reliable attendance, punctuality, and active participation in department meetings.

  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety, following all safety guidelines and promptly reporting any incidents.

  • Abide by the organization’s Code of Conduct and support its Mission and Vision.

  • Comply with all Departmental and Facility Policies, as well as State, Federal, and Regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, TJC, CMS, HIPAA).

  • Provide exceptional customer service internally and externally, fostering teamwork, professionalism, and a positive attitude in alignment with the organization’s customer service standards.

Qualifications


 

Required: Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

Preferred: Certification in Central Sterile Processing (CBSPD, IAHCSMM,CRCST, or CCSVP).

Certification Preferred:  five years of relevant experience accepted in place of certification.
