Operations: Police Additional Information: Show/Hide - Performs skilled investigative work involving crimes against persons and/or property
- Conducts follow-up criminal investigations and prepares criminal cases for court
- Performs interviews and questions complainants, witnesses and suspects regarding criminal activity
- Obtains statements, depositions, and admissions related to activity that may require warrants, subpoenas, and court orders
- Conducts searches of crime scenes and properly secures evidence
- Assists other law enforcement agencies with incidents involving local criminal activity that may impact student or campus safety
- Provides visible law enforcement support on school district property
- Creates and participates in crime prevention methods designed to decrease crime
- Prepares required periodic reporting
- Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator
- Required to attend scheduled shift during regular business hours as mandatedor for School Resource Officers and Alarm Response Officers in assigned regions/clusters/schools.
- Knowledge of investigative procedures
- Advanced level knowledge in Microsoft applications or MS Office Suite
- Ability to prepare and make presentations
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws to include constitutional guidelines, Board policy, departmental guidelines, directives and standard operating procedures, policies, practices, and procedures of law enforcement and the ability to read, interpret and apply them to various situations
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergencies
- Possess effective interview and interrogation skills
- Skilled in the use of firearms and other police equipment
- Ability to remain calm and think clearly and take effective action in emergencies
- Ability to investigate suspicious circumstances, persons, vehicles, and other crimes, etc.
- Ability to use independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Associate's degree required
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public safety, or related field preferred
- Valid Georgia driver's license is required
- Georgia Professional Standards Commission clearance certificate is required
- Must be able to maintain certifications required by standard operating procedures and state law
- Meet and maintain Georgia Police Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification
- Georgia Crime Information Center certification preferred
- P.O.S.T. Certified General or Master Instructor preferred
- Supervision/Management, Intermediate, and Advanced Certification preferred
- 6 years of experience in law enforcement in a traditional law enforcement agency or school environment required
- 3 years of experience in an area of specialized investigative unit: homeland security, youth & sex crimes, homicide, fraud, SWAT, cyber crimes/security, missing and exploited children, forensic analysis, etc. preferred

POSITION SUMMARY
The Investigator supports and facilitates the educational process within the Atlanta Public Schools by providing a safe and secure environment through the enforcement of state laws, preservation of public order, protection of life and the prevention, detection, or investigation of crime. The incumbent maintains positive relationships with school staff, administration, community members and all areas of law enforcement and public safety personnel.
This position serves as a first-line supervisor for School Resource Officers and Alarm Response Officers in assigned regions/clusters/schools.

Additional Work Conditions & Physical Abilities: Will require travel to multiple sites. Extended hours may be required depending on each situation. Must understand and have full knowledge of the occupational hazards in using power tools and equipment and of necessary safety precautions. Requires extensive safety training and/or protective devices.
