We are seeking an experienced and passionate Surgical Assistant to join our dynamic surgical team. Summary of Role 

Join our dynamic surgical team as a first assistant, where you'll play a crucial role in operative and invasive procedures. Essential Duties: 

  • Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization. 
  • Review patient health data relevant to the operative or invasive procedure (e.g., history and physical). 
  • Assist in surgeries by: 
  • Using instruments, retractors, suction, and sponging techniques. 
  • Handling and dissecting tissues. 
  • Clamping and ligating vessels, coagulating bleeding points. 
  • Placing drains and suturing muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin as directed by the surgeon. 
  • Serve as a resource to peers and colleagues. 
  • Maintain regulatory, credentialing, and privileging requirements. 
  • Participate in ongoing education and competency verification. 
  • Ensure privacy and confidentiality of health information. 

Requirements: 

  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program. 
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST). 
  • Certified surgical assistant (CSA), Certified surgical first assistant (CSFA), Surgical assistant, certified, (SA-C) or equivalent certification  
  • Licensure to practice in the State of Virginia 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. 
  • At least two years of perioperative services experience, with a preference for orthopedic and total joint procedures.
