Summary of Role
Join our dynamic surgical team as a first assistant, where you'll play a crucial role in operative and invasive procedures. Essential Duties:
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Review patient health data relevant to the operative or invasive procedure (e.g., history and physical).
- Assist in surgeries by:
- Using instruments, retractors, suction, and sponging techniques.
- Handling and dissecting tissues.
- Clamping and ligating vessels, coagulating bleeding points.
- Placing drains and suturing muscle, fascia, subcutaneous, and skin as directed by the surgeon.
- Serve as a resource to peers and colleagues.
- Maintain regulatory, credentialing, and privileging requirements.
- Participate in ongoing education and competency verification.
- Ensure privacy and confidentiality of health information.
Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
- Certified surgical assistant (CSA), Certified surgical first assistant (CSFA), Surgical assistant, certified, (SA-C) or equivalent certification
- Licensure to practice in the State of Virginia
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- At least two years of perioperative services experience, with a preference for orthopedic and total joint procedures.
