About the Department
South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks highly motivated, qualified candidates for the Custodian 5 position in our Facilities department.
This position will serve as a lead and supervisory custodian, guiding assigned custodial work teams and supervising at least four staff members. This position serves SPSCC at its Olympia and Lacey locations, with multiple buildings. The position will be responsible for planning, organizing, executing, and evaluating the functions of the custodial department, including policies and procedures and staff supervision.

Position Duties
Supervisory Duties
- Supervises and instructs assigned personnel in the care, cleaning, and upkeep of facilities
- Plans, develops, and directs the activity of the custodial department
- Analyzes needs for staffing, equipment, and supplies
- Establishes standards for cleaning and equipment care
- Assigns work orders
- Checks buildings to ensure they are properly maintained and cleanliness standards are met
- Trains and orients new staff
- Performs building, team, or group cleaning responsibilities and duties
- Periodically works or assists in the deep cleaning of buildings
- Assist with event set ups and other tasks as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Positions typically require two to four years’ experience supervising or directing others in large-scale housekeeping, janitorial, general or building maintenance or custodial work or equivalent education/experience
- At least six months experience as a lead or supervisor
- Two years as a custodian at SPSCC or equivalent experience
- Five years’ experience in large-scale housekeeping, janitorial, general or building maintenance or custodial work.
- Strong commitment to customer service.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and written.
- Ability to work well in a team environment, communicate, and share responsibilities.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently, perform multiple tasks, and accommodate interruptions.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Computer skills – Outlook; Megamations (work order system)
