Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care & Clinical Supervision
Oversee nursing care delivery during the shift, ensuring adherence to evidence-based clinical practices and hospital policies.
Ensure accurate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care.
Supervise medication administration, IV therapy, and documentation to prevent drug errors.
Respond promptly to emergencies (Code Blue, Fire, Disaster) and ensure staff preparedness at all times.
Ensure compliance with infection control practices, including hand hygiene, biomedical waste management, and aseptic techniques.
Monitor wound care, catheter care, and other clinical procedures to ensure timely and appropriate interventions.
2. Staff Supervision & Allocation
Allocate nursing staff based on patient acuity and nurse–patient ratio requirements.
Supervise and guide nursing, housekeeping, and ward support staff to ensure smooth coordination of work.
Conduct shift handovers and ensure continuity of care between shifts through clear communication and proper documentation.
Motivate and mentor team members to maintain professionalism, empathy, and teamwork.
Ensure discipline, grooming, punctuality, and adherence to hospital policies among nursing staff.
3. Coordination & Communication
Liaise with doctors, paramedical teams, and other departments for effective patient management.
Coordinate admissions, transfers, and discharges to ensure efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Communicate significant patient care issues and incidents promptly to the Senior Nursing In-Charge or Unit Nursing Lead.
Support consultants during rounds by ensuring timely availability of reports, equipment, and nursing support.
4. Administrative & Documentation Duties
Maintain and verify nursing documentation, patient records, and unit reports accurately.
Ensure adequate availability of consumables, equipment, and linen; raise indents as required.
Conduct daily checks for crash cart, emergency equipment, and medication expiry.
Monitor environmental cleanliness, safety, and infection control compliance in the unit.
Participate in internal audits, inspections, and accreditation-related compliance activities.
5. Quality & Training Support
Reinforce patient safety goals and quality standards during the shift.
Support the Nursing Educator and Unit Lead in conducting on-the-job training and competency assessments.
Identify training needs among team members and provide bedside teaching where required.
Report incidents, near-misses, or sentinel events in line with the hospital’s incident reporting system.
