Job Summary:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the overall evaluation, design, research, building, testing, and improving of mechanical and electrical systems. Responsibilities include using CAD software and other technical tools and processes to produce detailed designs, collaborating with other professionals and functions to ensure designs are successful, and ensuring all projects remain within budgetary and time constraints.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with clients and other team members to determine project scope.
- Collaborate with internal teams to create design sketches, layouts, and plans.
- Use computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product.
- Study the test data and make comparisons with similar designs.
- Perform building system analysis and design.
- Apply mechanical engineering theory and adhere to codes.
- Address conditions and challenges encountered at job sites.
- Ensure plans and specifications conform to applicable codes, to good engineering practices, and to the project scope.
- Provide commentary, corrections, and editing suggestions to the CAD/Revit Drafter and the design team.
- Design and build test fixtures for component and subsystem testing.
- Attend site visits for project surveys or feasibility studies.
- Attend initial project kick-off meetings to understand the scope of work, project schedule, and milestones.
- Ensure projects are completed timely, efficiently, on budget, and to the client requirements.
- Coordinate internally with the Electrical and Plumbing departments.
- Coordinate externally with architects and civil engineers.
Management Responsibilities:
- Lead and develop the Mechanical Engineering team.
- Facilitate communication and relay expectations between the team and senior leadership.
- Guide the team through daily work activities and projects while monitoring employee performance to ensure maximum productivity.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- At least ten years of experience working as part of a design team.
- Ability to provide a portfolio of product design projects that showcases the design process, final designs, and impact.
- Extensive mechanical and technical skills.
- At least three years of experience with computer-assisted design (CAD) software.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- At least ten years of experience working as part of a design team.
- At least eight years of experience with computer-assisted design (CAD) software.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional travel will be required, including to job sites.

- May require bending and reaching in areas from floor level to six (6) feet high.
- Requires pushing and pulling file cabinet drawers.
- Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols as well as hand/eye coordination.
- Work is often performed in an office environment and at a desk or a similar arrangement where the noise level is usually low.
- Work may also be performed at a variety of job sites under a variety of conditions including limited time spent outdoors.
