Labor Relations Manager  

The Labor Relations Manager serves as a strategic advisor and liaison between management, associates, and union representatives. This role ensures compliance with labor laws, company policies, and collective bargaining agreements while fostering a positive and legally compliant work environment. 

Main responsibilities: 

  • Develops resolution on Associate/Labor Relations issues within company policy and/or union contract, to include grievances and contract interpretation through the interpretation and application of applicable labor laws, union contracts, and company policies. 
  • Advise management on disciplinary actions, demotions, transfers, and other employment decisions.  
  • Serve as a communications link between the company and unions, coordinating grievance meetings and responding to information requests. 
  • Conduct and coordinate internal investigations related to grievances, EEO complaints (e.g., harassment, discrimination), wage and hour issues, and hotline reports, partnering with HR and Asset Protection, as needed and recommend appropriate actions to HR and leadership. 
  • Facilitate resolutions to Associate complaints and workplace conflicts. 
  • Support contract negotiations by conducting research, compiling documentation, and advising on labor trends. 
  • Assist in union avoidance efforts through research, communication strategies, and training. 
  • Represent the company at mediations and arbitration sessions. 
  • Support ADA accommodation process, including but not limited to, conducting interactive dialogues, facilitating associate placement and, as appropriate, partnering with the Workers Comp team. 
  • Assist with postings, selection processes, and career development programs for Hourly Union Associates. 
  • Prepare reports, accrual memos, and documentation for Legal and HR purposes. 
  • Refer issues to Shared Services for payroll, benefits, compensation, or HR records as appropriate. 
  • Documents Associate/Labor Relations activities ensuring that files are accurate and that history exists and is kept up to date as well as creating and maintaining all related documentation. 
  • Provides assistance in contract negotiation by conducting research, compiling information and documentation and providing advice and insight into trends to be addressed with the union. 
  • We are looking for candidates who possess the following: 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or Behavioral Sciences preferred  
  • At least 2 years of progressive HR or Labor Relations experience 
  • Experience with labor unions and collective bargaining agreements. 
  • Multi-unit management experience preferred. 
  • Skills 
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and mediation skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. 
  • Ability to independently conduct research and prepare professional documentation. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR systems. 
  • Strong organizational, planning, and leadership capabilities. 

Work Environment & Travel 

  • Primarily office-based with potential travel to retail units, hearings, and arbitration sessions. 
  • You must have your own means to transportation and be available for overnight travel as needed. 
  • Physical requirements include sitting for extended periods and occasional bending or reaching.
