Position Overview
The Assistant Teacher (AT) works as an assistant to the classroom special education teacher providing academic and behavioral support to students. Assistant Teachers are valuable collaborators in classrooms working with special education teachers and clinicians. The AT is responsible for carrying out the curriculum as created and developed by the lead teacher. ATs are responsible for implementing academic and extra-curricular programs during the summer program and school vacation weeks. The Assistant Teacher will ensure the students’ overall experience is in line with training principles, Italian Home’s treatment philosophy, and the highest quality of care.

Essential Functions & Qualifications
- Demonstrates sensitivity and respect for client’s culture and socioeconomic characteristics
- Attendance at staff and team meetings
- Supports classrooms in individual and group instruction
- Provide input for school reports and educational plans
- Assist in lunch/recess duty
- Plan/implement and lead after school enrichment activities
- Actively engage and support students with academics and behavior management
- Actively engage and participate in activities with students
- Implement summer school activities
- Treat students and coworkers with patience, empathy, and compassion
- Provide therapeutic physical restraint
- Represent the Pallotta School positively at school functions
- Strong commitment to Italian Home’s values, philosophy and mission
- Minimum of one year of experience working with children of a similar population
- Commitment to the highest quality of care
- Understanding and implementation of agency treatment philosophy
- Sound and appropriate judgment
- Successful in a stressful and fast paced environment, maintains calm
- Creative, thoughtful and able to make good decisions quickly in crisis situations; respond to emergencies quickly and safely
- Demonstrated strength in role modeling, teaching, and supporting, with strong motivational skills
- Demonstrated strength in accepting and giving critical feedback
- Visual and hearing acuity to perform job related functions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; computer literacy
- Receptive and responsive to supervision and professional development
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills

The hourly rate for this role is $20.00 USD per hour. This number does not reflect additional compensation-related benefits such as PTO, medical and life insurance, EAP, and the Italian Home for Children 403(b) retirement plan.
