Description

We exist so families can get better together. Each night, we keep 181 families close to the care and resources they need through six area Ronald McDonald Houses® and four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms®. Enabling families to stay close to their hospitalized child supports the health and well-being of the child and saves families more than $10 million in hotel and food costs each year. We also operate the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® program, providing medical care to children in underserved areas. Ronald McDonald House Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana is an independent not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

The IT Manager position plays a critical role in the operational management of the organization’s technology infrastructure, systems, and support services. This position is responsible for assisting with implementing IT policies, overseeing daily IT operations, ensuring cybersecurity, managing vendor relationships, and providing technical support across the organization.

As a mission-driven nonprofit, Ronald McDonald House depends heavily on technology to drive its programmatic impact, operational efficiency, and stakeholder engagement. The IT Manager ensures that the organization’s technological environment is secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with its mission, budget, and long-term goals. This role involves both hands-on technical work with a focus on innovation, user support, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the charity-wide development of the Enterprise Architecture strategy and technology roadmap.
  • Provides a single point of coordination and line oversight for organization-wide technology initiatives and transformation projects.
  • Coordinates service delivery specific to 3rd party vendor relationships, including the management of the IT outsourcing relationship.
  • Maintain the IT strategy that aligns with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and security of IT infrastructure including networks, servers, cloud environments, and hardware.
  • Ensure the protection of data and systems through vendor partnership and ensuring robust cybersecurity protocols.
  • Provide onboarding to new staff, and ongoing support and guidance on IT tools and services.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, including procurement of technology solutions and contract/vendor management.
  • Continually collaborate and foster a collaborative and service-oriented team culture.
  • Oversee IT infrastructure and operations projects to ensure they meet the stated objectives.
  •  Provide technical support to the employees across all locations and resolve any IT-related issues.
  • Perform regular assessments of system, network, and data security health. 
  •  Pursue, evaluate, and employ tactics to attain the goals established within the IT roadmap and business plan
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the most efficient and effective solutions are pursued
  • Implement directives related to architecture, development, maintenance and support of application systems, which drive and enable business objectives.
  • Participate in strategic business planning and identify IT and other business implications, opportunities and change initiatives to meet strategic plans and growth initiatives for the organization.
  • Ensure the security and protection of the charity's information systems and equipment
  • Develop business case and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
  • Bring an innovative mindset and collaborate with Department Leadership and House Directors to enhance efficiencies within their areas through technological support.
  • Keep current with trends and issues in the IT industry, including current technologies and prices. Advise, counsel, and educate executives and management on their competitive or financial impact.
  • Develop, customize and manage policies for things like laptop use, cell phone use, etc.
  • Ensure all operational IT systems and infrastructure are properly documented.
  •  Perform other related tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline
  • 7 years professional IT experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business problems
  • Experience managing a 3rd party IT outsourced partner preferred

Work Environment

  • Exposed to moderate noise levels
  • Frequent interruptions, ability to multitask key.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must be available to work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays as needed
  • Able to travel to the different houses and family rooms where the mission is delivered

Physical Abilities 

  • Basic office work, as well as the physical ability to perform all household tasks as needed (ie. Cleaning, making beds, laundry, etc.)
  • Must be willing and able to between necessary locations using personal vehicle or alternative
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel; talk or hear.
  • Must be physically capable of carrying 35 lbs with or without accommodation
