Job Description:
Major Responsibilities
Installs, changes, cleans, repairs, and test oil and gas fired burners related to Heating and DHW equipment.
Cleans igniters, inspects ports, fuel strainers and changeovers.
Operates and adjusts fuel controls to maintain proper combustion; checks and cleans smoke indicators, i.e cad cells
Troubleshoots/repairs oil burner and gas fired related electrical components, disconnecting and reconnecting the wiring to the control equipment within the burner circuit located between the burner thermal switch and the oil burner and equipment.
Performs boiler efficiency testing and adjustments.
Test and troubleshoots low water alarms and low water cutouts;
Test and troubleshoots boiler water levels and makes corrections for proper water levels including the repairing or replacing of the water feeder if necessary.
Maintains boiler operating log sheets.
Orders materials and supplies as required.
Maintains a clean work area/or job site upon completion of a project.
Trains and directs other employees assigned to projects when needed.
If no plumber is available burner tech may be requested to hook up gas appliances.
Performs assignments which may include scheduled overtime.
Responsible to respond to overtime work on recall, which may include unscheduled and emergency recall situations, during off hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Observes safety rules and precautions.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications, Education and Experience
High school education or equivalent
Two years specific experience in operation and repair of oil and gas burners and boilers
RI State Pipefitter Journeyperson I license and a PJF Oil license is required
Valid motor vehicle operator's license required
The ability to successfully complete the Brown University Defensive Driver Training Program and pass the course exam
Must maintain required licenses as a condition of employment

Demonstrable thorough ability, knowledge, and skill regarding:
Oil and gas burner operations related to boilers and water heaters.
Diagnosing burner problems and correcting them expeditiously.
Ability to use a digital combustion analyzer
Following standard procedures, reading and understanding plans, blueprints, sketches, wiring diagrams, and specifications.
Must possess own hand tools.
Objective bench test and/or field test may be required.
