Onsite – Buffalo, NYMoog Space and Defense Group is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, to contribute to the design, analysis, development and testing of complex control systems used on space exploration, military, and commercial applications. You’ll be responsible for the development of complex space avionics, actuation and mechanisms, propulsion, power, structures, and shock & vibration control. This position requires a high degree of foresight and creativity to anticipate and solve unprecedented engineering problems.
To be considered for this position, here’s what you’ll need to bring with you:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with 10 years’ relevant technical experience OR Master of Science Degree in Engineering with 8 years’ relevant technical experience.
Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, electrohydraulic, electromechanical, mechanical and/or electropneumatic components.
Background in design analysis, including stress analysis, kinematics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, and vibration.
Ability to understand new technical concepts and products. Utilize these skills to understand risks and take appropriate action.
Experience interfacing with customers with demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to mentor and coach other engineers.
The position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance and access to U.S. export-controlled information.
As a Senior Design Engineer, you will:
Lead mechanical design efforts on a variety of flight control systems from the proposal phase through critical design and finally through qualification and production.
Support the detailed design and analyses for our products including conceptual layout and design, dynamic performance modelling, thermal analysis, and structural analysis. Depending on the project and your skillset, you may be either the owner or a contributor to these tasks.
Contribute to a cross functional program team while prioritizing critical program requirements (cost, technical and schedule).
Ensure drawings are complete and accurate including using Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) methodologies to meet design, manufacturing and inspection requirements
Experience with 3D CAD, modelling, and analysis tools (Siemens NX, Teamcenter, ANSYS, Matlab, etc)
Present your work to colleagues and to customers through internal and external design reviews.
Mentor and coach other design engineers.
The primary site for this role is at our East Aurora location.

Salary Range Transparency:
Buffalo, NY $90,000.00–$135,000.00 AnnuallySalary Range Disclaimer
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
