The Drafter plays a key role in supporting engineering and manufacturing operations by developing accurate 3D models and detailed fabrication drawings for use in machining, welding, and final assembly. This position is responsible for transforming 2D AutoCAD files into fully modeled 3D parts and assemblies, creating production-ready drawings, and maintaining organized documentation that enables efficient, high-quality manufacturing. The Drafter collaborates closely with engineers, shop personnel, and project teams to ensure precision, clarity, and successful build outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- 3D Modeling & Drafting: Create accurate 3D models and assembly structures from 2D engineering drawings and specifications. Generate detailed manufacturing drawings, including machining details, weldments, and assembly layouts.
- Design Support: Develop and modify simple components, brackets, and assembly elements as required to support active projects.
- Documentation Management: Organize, maintain, and update drawing files to ensure availability and version accuracy across production teams.
- Shop Support & Clarifications: Respond to drawing-related questions and provide clarification to machinists, welders, and assembly personnel to enable efficient execution.
- Standards & Quality Compliance: Ensure drafting outputs meet company standards, tolerancing practices, safety considerations, and industry expectations for manufacturability.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline drafting workflows and reduce design errors by improving consistency and documentation enhancements.
Requirements
• Associate degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design Technology, or equivalent training
• Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or SolidWorks
• Proficiency with AutoCAD for 2D drafting
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and accuracy in documentation
• Ability to communicate effectively with engineering and production teams
• Understanding of machining and fabrication principles is considered an asset
