The cashier II (part time) ensures mail remittance payments, and payments made via wire transfer or direct deposit are processed timely and efficiently in preparation for deposit into designated bank accounts, which may include payments for other Berkshire Hathaway Energy companies.
The position is responsible for conducting research to ensure correct application of payments, and utilizes imaging technology, automated mail opening equipment and payment processing software and hardware to perform the primary job duties and responsibilities listed below.
Additionally, this position performs receptionist duties for the Davenport corporate office location.
Responsibilities
Utilizes remittance equipment and technology to accurately process customer payments received via the United States Postal Service, wire transfer or direct deposit, which requires coordinating with peers to ensure resources are assigned to all job duties. Ensures daily cleaning and maintenance of check processing equipment. (45%)
Ensures payments are transmitted correctly each day and consults with IT and cashiering software help desks as necessary to resolve any issues that may develop. (20%)
Provides training to new and current staff members in all payment processing functions and is a resource for any questions that arise during completion of these tasks. (5%)
Performs Reception duties at front desk in lobby at the Davenport corporate office (10%)
Communicates with peers, internal departments, financial institutions and vendors as needed to resolve issues related to payment files, deposits, supply need and processes. (5%)
Assists in investigating and resolving payment research requests from external and internal customers. Contacts external and internal customers to obtain payment posting instructions when the stub is missing, and thorough research does not produce the customer's obvious posting intention. (5%)
Assesses safety issues affecting designated work areas and provides recommendations for resolution. (5%) Performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned. (5%)
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
One year of related experience is required.
Oral and written communication skills to transmit information accurately and understandably.
Proficiency in operation of 10-key pad and in completion of numerical data entry functions.
Proficiency in operation of mail opening and payment processing equipment and the ability to operate check processing equipment.
Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds and remain on feet for two-to-four-hour period daily.
Ability to work a flexible work schedule including Monday-Friday, early morning hours and some holidays.
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines with a high level of accuracy and reliability.
High sensitivity to external and internal customer needs.
Prior experience with customer contact and with customer information system is desired, along with general knowledge of customer service policies and procedures.
Personal computer knowledge and skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.
Ability to assume a leadership role in groups, teams and task forces.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
