$71,613 - $72,190 (Annual)
The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking a Special Assistant to fill full-time positions with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Bureau of Health Promotion for Justice Impacted Populations.
The Bureau of Health Promotion for Justice Impacted Populations (HPJIP) promotes community-based, health-led, cross-sector strategies that reduce criminal-justice involvement and improve the transition of individuals back to the community after incarceration and community supervision. HPJIP seeks to improve the physical, mental, and behavioral health and well-being of marginalized populations, with specific emphasis on persons involved and impacted by the criminal legal system.
This position reports to the Assistant Commissioner of the Bureau of Health Promotion for Justice-Impacted Populations (HPJIP), the Special Assistant will be responsible for participating in special projects, researching, and producing presentations, communication documents, and Bureau updates and collaborating with internal and external partners. The critical role of the Special Assistant will be to support the bureau's coordination and operational needs across units and the management, fulfillment and escalation of expedited reports to agency and city leadership that identify gaps and barriers to timely, appropriate intervention. Without this essential role, the city potentially places New Yorkers at heightened risk for poor long-term mental and physical outcomes.
Responsibilities/Duties:
The Special Assistant will report directly to the bureau's Special Project Manager and is primarily responsible for day-to-day management and support of the Assistant Commissioner's team. The Special Assistant will:
- Prepare the Assistant Commissioner for high-level meetings, including the development of agendas and background documents, and prepare presentations for the Assistant Commissioner for meetings and speaking events.
- Develop and present reports, briefings, proposals, position statements, and presentations for internal and external distribution at the direction of the Assistant Commissioner.
- Assist preparing the Assistant Commissioner or designated unit leads for high-level meetings, including the development of agendas and background documents.
- Represent the AC as requested to community partners, providers, and the public.
- Support scheduling and calendar activities for bureau leadership, take notes when necessary, and participate in planning activities.
- Manage calendar and travel arrangements for Assistant Commissioner.
- Work out of different program sites.
- Coordinate the bureau's procurement, operations, and administrative tasks
- Participate in special projects and workgroups as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in psychology, Social Work, Public Heath, Public Administration, Public Policy, or relevant field and 2 years of relevant project coordination and/or project management experience.
- Master's degree in psychology, Social Work, Public Heath, Public Administration, Public Policy, or relevant field and 1 year of relevant project coordination and/or project management experience; or
Preferred Skills
- Possesses excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Flexibility, and ability to handle changing workload with multiple projects and changing priorities
- Creative problem-solver who enjoys working in fast-paced environment, is highly motivated and ability to coordinate multiple projects/tasks
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Attention to detail and organization.
