Summary Description

Day to day management of the High Voltage (HV) business team which includes safety, administration, sales development, engineering, quality and customer satisfaction.


Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:


  • Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M safety policies and procedures.
  • Complies with and ensures compliance with all Tri-M employment policies and procedures including standards of conduct and appearance to reflect positively on the Company.
  • Overall responsibility for the safety of all team members. This includes but is not limited to, safety tools, PPE, safety audits, and application of the Tri-M safety policy to the HV business.
  • Creates and maintains cohesion between the high voltage team and other business teams through teambuilding events and communication both verbally and written. 
  • Maintain existing customer relationships and develop and expand new relationships with the utility/co-op customer base. 
  • Provides engineering for planning and execution of substation, distribution and transmission projects.
  • Works directly with the Operations Manager to develop yearly financial targets.
  • Provide onsite support when required or requested, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ensures that quality and productivity meet Company and customer standards.
  • Partner with the team and Safety/QA supervisor to define and expand the field QA process for the HV business.
  • Define and implement an ongoing training and career development program, including performance assessments for assigned high voltage team members.
  • Evaluate, plan, coordinate vehicle/ tool/ equipment upgrades, replacements, and new purchases.
  • Develop and implement documented processes across the HV business team.
  • Assures that all permits, licenses, and inspections filings are completed.
  • Develops scope of work, bill of material and labor hours for estimates.
  • Ensures that project scheduling meets the time goals of the customer.
  • Assists personnel with on-site problems when necessary.
  • Prepares project status reports and/or schedules, if applicable.
  • Prices, submits to owner and expedites all change order requests, as needed.
  • Responds in timely manner to employee concerns.
  • Reviews and ensures that all reports and paperwork from field is accurate prior to submitting to data entry.
  • Assists in general business development activities.

Job Qualifications 

Skills/Educational Requirements:


  • 5-8 years of experience in the utility business involving line work, substations, and underground. 
  • Knowledge or working relationship with Exelon, PECO, Delmarva, PEPCO, BG&E, Co-Ops or other Northeast utilities a plus.
  • A minimum of a High school diploma required.  College degree or equivalent working experience a plus. 
  • Excellent technical knowledge of electrical systems and the NEC.
  • Ability to operate a laptop and/or tablet is a must.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience in Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal, written and human relations skills.
  • Ability to work as a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to read, understand and effectively apply construction drawings, specifications and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to organize and administer multiple job functions with good attention to detail.
  • Must be confident, decisive, self-motivated.
  • Extensive knowledge with High Voltage equipment and vehicles, i.e. bucket truck, line truck.


 Physical Requirements:


  • Working a minimum of 40 hours/week.

  • Sitting 6 to 8 hours/day.

  • Lifting weights of 0 to 30 lbs. from floor to above shoulders.

  • Repetitive use of hands for writing, typing, data entry, and filing.

  • Vision adequate for daily and consistent computer use and reading.

  • Hearing adequate for phone use.

  • Standing, climbing, kneeling, reaching, bending, twisting, and walking as needed to perform site surveys to collect data for project design.

  • Balance adequate for climbing ladders, scaffolds, and lifts.

  • Environmental factors include working in: temperature extremes of 0 F to 100 F up to 8 hours inside or outside; atmospheric exposure to dust, gases, fumes, odors; and poor ventilation in confined spaces.

  • Special hazards include exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and explosive hazards.

  • Personal protective equipment includes use of hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves and hearing protection.
