Job Description
The School of Sciences and Humanities is looking to hire a part-time instructor to teach a 4-credit lecture and lab Applications in Genetics class in Spring 2026. The in-person lecture class is scheduled Tuesdays and Fridays 8-9:15am- with the lab on Thursdays 8-9:45am. Additionally, an option to teach the lab for another class, Molecular Neurobiology Tuesdays 3-4:45pm is open. Both will be taught on the Wentworth Institute of Technology campus.
The course descriptions are below:
BIOL 3000 APPLICATIONS IN GENETICS (lecture and lab instructor needed)
This course will explore the vast applications of genetics in biomedical science. Students will survey recently published primary research articles, read and discuss selected scientific literature and view relevant biomedical films or attend symposia in the Boston area, which emphasize the importance of genetics in biomedical progress. Topics will include: classical molecular genetics, genetic disease, genomics, genetic engineering, epigenetics and the social, moral, and ethical issues surrounding biomedicine. Lab experiments will be conducted to learn about these techniques in action. Students may be assigned a genetic disease and follow it throughout the term.
BIOL4500 MOLECULAR NEUROBIOLOGY(lab instructor only needed)
This course focuses on the molecular, cellular and biochemical events that underlie neuronal function. Specialization of nerve cells, neural development, and maturation of the central nervous system is taught at the cellular level. Emphasis is placed on the molecular pathways that facilitate the specialized function of neuronal cells and the molecular aspects of neural disease process. For the last three weeks of the semester, lecture topics are decided based on student interest. Possible Lab topics- Observation of molecular traits in flies that involve neurological malformations; Quantitative PCR and primer design to evaluate gene expression of neurological genes in normal and diseased tissues; Genetic sequencing of genes associated with neurological diseases.
Minimum Qualifications – Master’s degree in biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology or related field (PhD or ABD preferred).
Teaching Experience – At least one year of college-level teaching or professional experience in genetics, molecular biology transformation of organisms and gene sequencing/analysis.
Professional or Research Experience – Demonstrated experience addressing a biomedical problem using modern molecular approaches is preferred. Experience integrating applied research and basic sciences would be ideal; those persons with experience working in industry are strongly encouraged to apply.
Teaching experience and ongoing engagement with media research practice are essential in this rapidly evolving field.
Please submit CV and contact information.
