Under general supervision, responsible for driving police vehicles to and from the City of Arlington’s approved repair shop. Performs basic maintenance tasks on vehicles, like jump-starting dead batteries and inspecting new vehicles. Keeps an accurate record of all police cars, monitors their condition and upkeep, and makes sure new vehicles are ready to use. Maintains detailed records of the police fleet through daily logs and reports. Handles mail duties, including picking up, sorting, and delivering mail. Assists the Quartermaster’s office at the front desk by handing out uniforms to officers and helping manage inventory. Also helps with receiving shipments and coordinates pickups and deliveries with supply vendors and other city departments.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Maintain inventory records for police vehicles, uniforms, and supply equipment.
Transport police vehicles to and from the city maintenance facility, contracted vendors, and other designated City or Police Department facilities.
Inspect new police vehicles to verify readiness for service and complete designated checklists provided by Resource Management.
Communicate effectively including but not limited to:
• Police Department support staff, officers, supervisors, command staff.
• City contracted or outside vendors regarding fleet service requests
• Supply communications via Resource Management.
Perform administrative and clerical tasks in support of department operations, including handling mail, organizing and distributing packages, receiving deliveries, and managing inventory in support of Resource Management functions
Assist at the Quartermaster’s front counter by distributing uniforms to officers and supporting inventory control procedures.
Provide exceptional customer service and works collaboratively within a team-based environment.
Operate motorized vehicles safely and efficiently in accordance with job responsibilities.
Plan and schedule vehicle maintenance and interpret oral and written instructions related to automotive repairs and servicing.
Receive and communicate detailed information accurately to ensure task completion.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Compile information from written or digital record and perform special projects as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures.
Skill in using PC Software including current Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
Skill in communicating professionally and tactfully with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.
Skill with organization and attention to detail including in performing multiple tasks at once.
Exercises discretion and independent judgment utilizing knowledge of the organization's policies.
Works independently under general instructions.
Performs a variety of physical skills including but not limited to filing, pulling, seeing, sorting, squatting, standing, stooping, twisting body, typing, walking, and writing.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including but not limited to PC, telephone, calculator, scanner, and copier.
Ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks.
Ability to learn new systems and procedures quickly.
Lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds independently, with the ability to handle heavier items with employee assistance.
Work in both indoor and outdoor environments regardless of weather conditions unless directed otherwise by PD or city management.
Maintain and upkeep a professional appearance in an approved city issued uniform.
Appearance and hygiene must meet requirements as defined in the city personnel policy and in police general orders.
Qualifying Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Knowledge of fleet replacement and related programs.
Knowledge of PC and app-based vehicle maintenance tracking systems.
Knowledge of service and maintenance requirements of automotive equipment.
Knowledge of methods, practices, and principles of basic mechanical repair work.
Knowledge of basic inventory practices.
