Position Description

Manages a unit within a department. Plans, organizes and develops goals and procedures for the unit. Represents the unit to administrators, outside agencies and others on relevant matters. Supervises subordinate staff.

Major/Essential Functions

  • Teaches courses (both credit and non-credit), conducts orientations, provides on-demand instructional sessions, designs instructional modules, and teaches seminars for faculty, residents, community members, and students
  • Collects material for, maintains and develops and the libraries' institutional archives collections
  • Provides library services to support the School of Dentistry
  • Establishes, writes, and maintains archives policies and practices
  • Answers library reference questions, assists library patrons, and performs literature searches. Tasks are performed in person, via telephone, via email, in library chat room, via STM, and using other web-based reference tools
  • Acts as Library Director in the absence of the Associate Director at the MSBII Library
  • Acts as the liaison to assigned departments and schools for collection development purposes. Recommends monographs for purchase and weeding
  • Advises and provides feedback related to departmental goals, policies, and procedures
  • Supports the Service Plus philosophy of Texas Tech University Health Sciences
  • Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures.
  • Works on other library projects as assigned.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.)
  • Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required
  • Demonstrable computer skills, including the ability to teach others computer skills
  • Demonstrable teaching skills
  • Experience managing a digital archive
  • Completed Certificate of Archival Management or an equivalent
  • Knowledge of library purchasing practices
  • Ability to use both PC compatible systems
  • Master's degree in Library/Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited institution
  • At least one year of experience working full-time in a health sciences library environment, or one year of experience working in an academic library archive

Pay Statement
