Our new assessment center will increase testing opportunities, improve standardization, and incorporate cutting-edge technology, ensuring that future chiropractors are fully prepared to serve patients with skill, integrity, and excellence.


Headquartered in Greeley, Colorado, National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) is the international testing organization for the chiropractic profession, with the mission of ensuring professional competency and public safety through excellence in testing. Established in 1963, NBCE develops, administers, and scores standardized examinations for candidates seeking chiropractic licensure in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and in several international countries. 


ROLE SUMMARY:


The Standardized Patient Educator (SPE) is responsible for supervising, training, scheduling, and the ongoing professional development of Technique Patients (TPs) and Standardized Patients (SPs) used in high-stakes clinical skills assessments. This role ensures that SPs accurately and consistently portray patient cases, provide reliable ratings, where applicable, and adhere to strict protocols and confidentiality standards. The SPE is also actively involved in the recruitment and selection of TPs and SPs to ensure a quality, skilled, and reliable pool of participants. This role requires a high level of professionalism, reliability, and discretion in a high-stakes exam environment. 


Recruitment and Onboarding 

  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and onboarding TPs and SPs. 
  • Assist in screening SP assessments to ensure baseline competencies. 
  • Identify appropriate SPs based on case criteria for cases portrayed during examinations. 

Supervising and Training

  • Supervise, coach, and counsel TPs and SPs. Maintain appropriate documentation regarding work performance and work habits. 
  • Adapt and deliver comprehensive case-specific training for a diverse pool of SPs, ensuring the accurate portrayal of symptoms, emotional effect, physical findings, and history. 

Scheduling 

  • Develop and maintain the scheduling calendar for TPs and SPs across training sessions, simulation events, and assessments, as applicable. 
  • Track TP and SP availability, conflicts and cancellations, and update schedules accordingly. 
  • Coordinate last-minute adjustments and replacements, as needed, to ensure full event coverage. 

Quality Assurance and Performance Monitoring

  • Observe TPs and SPs performance during examinations, providing feedback and remediation as needed.
  • Conduct post-exam debriefs with TPs and SPs and contribute to continuous improvement efforts. 
  • Maintain orderly rotation of TPs and SPs, conduct debriefs and maintain safety during examinations. 

Operational and Exam Support

  • Assist with logistical planning and exam day coordination, ensuring TPs and SPs are well-prepared and exams run smoothly. 
  • Support secure handling and delivery of exam content in line with organizational policies and exam board guidelines. 
  • Serve as a backup for SPs, as needed.

Requirements

  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, education, or theatre, or 2 + years of equivalent work experience (e.g., training, medical simulation, education, or standardized/simulated patients).
  • 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience conducting structured or semi-structured interviews and assessing individuals in a professional or educational setting. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to memorize, internalize, and realistically portray case scenarios, and coach others to do the same.
  • Proven ability to coach and provide constructive feedback. 
  • Willingness to be videotaped.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with examinees, TPs and SPs, and other NBCE staff. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to remain focused and composed when handling sensitive topics and emotional reactions from students which may arise during assessments or debriefings.
  • High attention to detail and a commitment to maintain confidentiality and security standards.
  • Intermediate computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Organizational and prioritization skills and abilities. 
  • Ability to serve as a backup for SPs, as needed.
  • Ability to work required weekends, with flexibility to work during the week as needed.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Prior experience in scheduling or event coordination preferred. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology. 
  • Experience with medical simulation and acting. 
  • Experience with SPs and an understanding of clinical interviewing and physical exams.

COMPENSATION


Hiring Range: $28.63 - $34.35 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
