Position Purpose:
The buyer is responsible for independently buying and allocating a defined number of categories/vendors. They are responsible for translating their open to buy to a buying plan and maximizing sales by incorporating business trend and influencing financial plan changes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently manage significant buying categories/vendors
- Formulate and execute product placement strategies with visual merchandising team
- Drive plan changes to react to current business trends with Planner and leadership
- Manage stock levels to seasonal targets
- Own assortment planning for your categories/vendor sightline
- Find and grow new category/vendor opportunities
- Identify and implement improvements to buying process with leadership approval
- Successfully present buying strategy cross departmentally
- Own MDs and consolidation strategy for categories of responsibility
- Maximize sales and margin opportunities
- Project management for team projects
- May participate in training and developing other team members
- May manage a small team
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
- 3-5 years previous buying experience with some experience in large scale/multi door buying
- Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of work and education
- Excellent understanding of "retail math" and business analysis
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Entrepreneurial spirit
- Ability to think critically and solve problems
- Ability to work in a diverse environment
- High attention to detail
- Exceptional written/verbal/presentation communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to express creativity and innovative ideas
- Thorough understanding of the Zumiez, customer, market, and industry trends and ways to capitalize
- Ability and willingness to work hard in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, team-oriented environment
- Proficiency in computer programs including Microsoft Office and internal buying systems
- Travel to domestic markets and national events required
- Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a documented need for an accommodation certified by a medical professional, or properly documented need for a religious accommodation
Physical Demands of Work Environment:
- Ability to sit in a stationary position in an office environment for extended periods of time and work on a PC without limitations
- Must be able to distinguish and inspect materials on product
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
