Position Summary

The Student Achievement Coach identifies student academic and support service needs, providing coaching and planning for a successful student experience.

This is a Fixed-Term position therefore continous employment is contingent upon further position funding, need, and/or project completion time.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides coaching and advice to students in understanding college navigation, policies, procedures, activities and support services, overcoming both academic and non-academic obstacles, enhancing SFCC student success rates.

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements activities and events that adhere to SFCC and grant objectives, developing and updating student success plans, utilizing outreach and case management to engage students.

  • Coaches students in problem solving life skills, promoting self-advocation and problem-solving skills.

  • Assists in the recruitment, intake and acceptance process for non-credit students, establishing clear program expectations, identifying potential risks and successful candidates, increasing retention and program completion rates.

  • Maintains program compliance with federal, state and private grant guidelines, collecting relative student activity data, tracking participation and outreach efforts, preparing performance reports used for analysis.

  • Collaborates effectively with other SFCC departments, divisions, and outreach community agencies to produce viable resources for non-credit students.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of admission, registration and degree program requirements.

  • Knowledge of student recruitment and retention principles.

  • Knowledge of career development for low-income and first-generation college students

  • Knowledge of the academic needs of low-income and first-generation college students.

  • Ability to collect, analyze and maintain data records and track progress, record keeping and maintenance

  • Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and apply standards, policies, procedures, and regulations.

  • Ability to work independently and to adapt to changes in work situations and shifting priorities

  • Knowledge of case management techniques.

  • Knowledge of college policies and procedures.

  • Knowledge and skills using Microsoft Office, Ellucian Banner, student tracking software, case management software.

  • Knowledge of campus-wide programs and related student needs.

  • Skill in conflict, decision making, and problem solving.

  • Skill in interpersonal relations.

  • Skills in developing and facilitating effective training workshops,

  • Skill in oral and written communication.

  • Ability to work professionally and must have leadership skills.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally using multi-level collaboration.

  • Ability to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse student and campus population.

  • Ability to collect and analyze data.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize deadlines.

  • Ability to adapt to various student situations.

  • Ability to work effectively in a team-selling.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

  • Ability to work within state and federal grant objectives, rules, and regulations.

  • Ability to interact, establish and maintain constructive and cooperative interpersonal relationships.

  • Ability to keep current with student needs and intervention strategies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

  • Five (5) years of experience related to duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience implementing career planning workshops and educational programs for students.

  • Experience working with postsecondary administrators, faculty, and staff.

  • Fluency in Spanish and a background similar to participants' are preferred.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.  

  • Repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computer.  

  • May be required to lift up to 20 pounds.  

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior classroom/office work environment.  

Work Hours:

  • 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
