Responsibilities
The Clinical Resource Nurse provides critical care support to nursing staff in all areas of the hospital. As a member of the Emergency Response Team, the resource nurse responds to all clinical and non-clinical emergencies in the hospital as well as provides rapid treatment to deteriorating patients in order to prevent or stop hospital complications from occurring. The resource nurse will also assist with admissions, discharges, and transportation to facilitate throughput within the organization. Professional obligations as a Stamford Health Magnet Nurse include your participation in shared governance structure, quality improvement measures, patient experience interventions, leadership opportunities such as charge role when appropriate and overall organizational and nursing strategic initiatives.
Coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and following all established standards of practice within State and Federal guidelines.
Responsible for responding to clinical emergencies throughout the hospital.
Assists staff nurses with patients experiencing a change in status warranting immediate intervention and potential transfer to critical care areas.
Available as a critical care resource to nursing staff.
Performs intentional rounding on all nursing units to identify patients at risk for clinical decompensation.
Performs intentional rounding on patients that have been transferred out of the ICU for the first 24 hours.
Collaborates with the nursing staff and MDs for optimal treatment of the ETOH withdrawal population.
Acts as mentor to new nursing staff and GEMS.
In collaboration with Professional Development Staff, provides real time education to nursing staff
Resource for nursing staff on restraint use and documentation.
Resource for nursing staff for IV education and assistance with difficult peripheral IV insertions.
Participates in and supports performance improvement and risk management activities and risk management activities.
Cross-training to and functions in the Nursing Supervision role.
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Valid license as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut.
BSN preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in a critical care setting (ICU or ED).
Maintains a minimum of 6 contact hours annually.
Certifications – BLS & ACLS. NIHSS & PALS (obtain by the end of the orientation period). TNCC preferred.
Certified in IV and conscious sedation.
