POSITION: Program Manager I, Research & Evaluation
DEPARTMENT: Community Wellness Department
REPORTS TO: Director of Research & Evaluation
LOCATIONS: Native American Health Center, Inc. (NAHC)
WORK HOURS: Full Time, 40 hours per week, 100% FTE
STATUS: Non-Union, Exempt


POSITION SUMMARY
The Program Manager I, Research & Evaluation will lead and coordinate community-based research initiatives focused on Native American/Indigenous health, traditional healing practices, and culture-based services. This role is responsible for overseeing project planning and implementation, ensuring timelines and deliverables are achieved, supervising research staff, and contributing to data analysis and knowledge sharing through publications and presentations. The position emphasizes strong organization, collaboration, and a commitment to community-driven research that advances health equity for Native/Indigenous peoples.


The Native American Health Center is an accredited institution and adheres to the standards of excellence set forth by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management and Coordination

1. Develop detailed work plans, timelines, and budgets for multiple community-based research projects.
2. Track progress to ensure projects remain on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
3. Organize and facilitate meetings with project team, funders, community partners, advisory boards, and other stakeholders ensuring clear communication and accountability.
 

Data Collection, Analysis, and Knowledge Dissemination
4. Coordinate and support data collection activities, including participant recruitment and survey design (paper & virtual) and administration.
5. Collaborate with community partners and advisory boards to ensure research methods and work products align with cultural protocols and community priorities.
6. Conduct literature reviews on topics across Public Health, Behavioral Health, culture-based healing, and Native/Indigenous health.
7. Ensure adherence to ethical standards and principles throughout research activities.
8. Contribute to data analyses and interpretation of results.
9. Support with preparation of Institutional Review Board applications/reports, reports to government/funders & NAHC, manuscripts, and presentations for conferences, workshops and NAHC meetings.
 

Staff Supervision, Training, and Mentorship
10. Supervise project staff, including research assistants and/or student interns.
11. Delegate project tasks among internal team members and external partners and resources.
12. Contribute to a collaborative and culturally sensitive team environment.
 

General Duties
13. Demonstrate cooperative and professional behavior at all times when interacting with supervisors, colleagues, subordinates, clients, and the community.
14. Perform effectively under pressure, managing multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines efficiently.
15. Attend all scheduled meetings and training sessions as required, ensuring meetings do not overlap and adequate travel time has been allocated.
16. Adhere to ergonomic safety standards, maintaining proper posture and engaging in regular ergonomic stretches.
17. Prioritize safety by ensuring that all tasks and operations are conducted with the highest consideration for the well-being of all personnel, including oneself.
18. Take prompt and appropriate corrective measures to address any concerns related to employee health and safety that are brought to one's attention.
19. Other duties as assigned by Supervisor and Director of CWD.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, social sciences, health sciences, or a related field.
2. 3–5 years of experience in project/program management; research or health-related setting preferred.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Excellent attention to detail.
5. Basic knowledge of software including Qualtrics and/or SurveyMonkey, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
6. Vaccination Level 2: Must be able to provide TB, Physical, seasonal flu and proof of Vaccination immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP, prior to start date. If vaccination records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.
7. BLS/CPR certification must be obtained prior to start date and kept current at all times.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in public health, social sciences, or a related field.
2.
Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills, including expertise with specific analytical programs, e.g. R, SPSS, Atlas.ti, Dedoose, NVivo, etc.
3. Familiarity with Bay Area Native American/Indigenous community and/or prior experience conducting research or evaluation with Native/Indigenous communities or Tribes.
4. Familiarity with community-based participatory research (CBPR), Indigenous research methods and tools.
