ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Performs complex nursing work. This includes routine and emergency care, treatment, and training for people with intellectual disabilities in a residential setting.
- Work involves providing for the assessment, care and treatment of patients.
- May supervise the work of others.
- Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Must demonstrate considerable knowledge of nursing rules/regulations, methods, procedures, techniques and human relations.
- Must be able to appropriately interact with individuals with developmental disabilities and staff members.
- Must be able to keep records and make reports.
- Must be able to calculate mathematical dosages of medications.
- Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR.
- Must be able to recognize appropriate Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) procedures.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact)
- Current CPR certification
- Valid Photo ID
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Two years' nursing experience preferred. 6 months as an RN preferred.
- Previous experience working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of nursing procedures and practices and of the Texas Nursing Practice Act, Rules and Regulations of the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.
- Ability to identify nursing interventions appropriate to the population served.
- Ability to manage and take a leadership role in managing emergencies.
- Ability to communicate effectively with other staff members to provide effective clinical supervision or to relay concerns about the patient to other team members.
