Title: Adjunct Faculty Nutrition

Department: School of Nursing and Health Professions

Exempt, Part-time

Direct Report to: This position reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions

 

  1. Position Summary

The responsibilities of this position comprise of teaching in assigned courses in the nutrition program. The Adjunct Faculty member is expected to remain current in the discipline and pedagogy and ethically support the policies and mission of the University. The Adjunct Faculty is expected to participate actively in curriculum delivery, development, and assessment. The Adjunct Faculty will hold regular office hours in support of students. Undergraduate courses will be offered in person, and graduate courses will be offered online and in person if in the clinical environment or clinical immersion.

 

  1. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Meet faculty responsibilities as described by Chaminade University’s Policy Manual IV and department specific faculty handbook
    • Support policies as stated in the Chaminade School of Nursing and Health Professions Nutrition & Dietetics Student Handbook and in course syllabi
    • Participate in meetings related to the course(s) being taught 
    • Meet all requirements as set forth in accreditation standards
    • Maintain high standards and promote excellence in   education 
    • Demonstrate ongoing professional competency by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and remaining current in academic discipline
    • Meet clinical faculty responsibilities as described by the Chaminade University’s Policy Manual IV if applicable
    • Complete requirements for specific clinical sites such as but not limited to health requirements, orientation, etc. if applicable
    • Participate in clinical orientation sessions, course coordination meetings and special meetings relative to the course and university as applicable 
    • Provide clinical instruction including but not limited to orientation of students to clinical site, assign students to specific patients, facilitate patient assignments, demonstrate clinical procedures, observe student performance, preconference and post conference with students if applicable. 
    • Demonstrate and maintain a professional relationship with agency staff, faculty, and students. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area hospitals, clinics, industries, and agencies. 
    • Complete and submit all end-of-course materials related to student performance no later than a week after student course evaluations
    • Remain current in the latest industry practices, standards, equipment, research, and technology
    • Any other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Nursing and Health Professions

  1. Education and Experience

 

Minimum 

  • Master's degree or Terminal Degree in nutrition, public health, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university to teach in undergraduate nutrition program. 
  • Master's degree or Terminal Degree in nutrition from a regionally accredited college or university to teach in graduate nutrition program. 
  • Registered Dietitian license to teach in graduate nutrition program. 
     
     
  1. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 
  • Experience teaching in an Institute of Higher Education
  • Demonstrate and encourage critical thinking skills 
  • Demonstrate and maintain a professional relationship with administration, faculty, staff, and students
  • Communicate clearly with administration, faculty, staff, and students
  • Serve as a professional role model for students in professional interaction with other health workers and with clinical facilities 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body at all levels of the university
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), and other programs related to teaching, learning, advising, and assessment
  • Be prompt and punctual in reporting for clinical and in meeting with the students if in the clinical environment 
  • Maintain high standards and promote excellence in education
  • Ability to prioritize work and resources
  • Ability to meet deadlines 
  • High integrity and ethical standards 
  • Continue as competent clinical faculty in nursing by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies

  1. Physical Requirements

Duties involve light work in an office and community setting and requires a minimum of physical effort with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines. Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills. Must have finger dexterity. Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others will understand.

 

  1. Other Requirements
    • This is a part-time, exempt position. Twenty hours or less per week (M-F) will be the general rule. However, depending on the project cycles and workflow demands of the department, additional hours or workday schedule changes may be occasionally required.   Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends, and a varying schedule
    • Performs similar, comparable, or related duties as may be assigned or required
    • Observes all safety and health regulations and works in accordance with safe work procedures and policies of the University. Reports unsafe acts/conditions and injuries in a timely and proper manner
