The Role:
The Financial Controller will oversee all accounting and financial reporting functions to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance across the organization. This role is responsible for managing the accounting team, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing timely, actionable insights that support decision-making and growth, and requires a strong understanding of financial statements, tax laws, and accounting principles to guide strategic decisions and protect company assets. The VP of Accounting & Corporate Controller will serve as a critical finance leader responsible for both the tactical execution of accounting operations and the transformation of our finance function. This role combines deep technical accounting expertise with visionary leadership to modernize processes, scale infrastructure, and position finance as a strategic business partner. The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves to solve complex accounting challenges and drive enterprise-wide initiatives that enhance financial capabilities and decision-making.
Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting Excellence
- Own end-to-end financial accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
- Ensure accurate, timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, with an eye toward technical complexity and audit-readiness
- Lead the monthly close process with rigor and discipline, establishing SLAs and KPIs that drive operational excellence, as well as delivering timely information to business leaders
- Design and implement robust internal control frameworks, accounting policies, and procedures that support growth and mitigate risk
- Establish sophisticated financial reporting capabilities that provide leadership with actionable insights and transparency into business performance
- Lead the company’s AR collection process with customers, ensuring timely payment and implementing strategies to shorten payment cycle time
Strategic Planning & Financial Analysis
- Collaborate closely with FP&A leadership to integrate financial planning, analysis, and accounting functions for seamless financial storytelling
- Provide strategic input into budgeting, forecasting, long-range planning, and scenario modeling processes
- Deliver executive-level financial analysis and insights on key drivers, trends, performance metrics, and business opportunities
Compliance, Risk Management & Governance
- Serve as primary liaison with external auditors, managing annual financial audits and ensuring efficient, successful outcomes
- Establish a comprehensive compliance framework ensuring adherence to all applicable international, federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements
- Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate financial and operational risks through strong controls and governance practices
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and processes that demonstrate control effectiveness and regulatory compliance
- Prepare the organization for increased scrutiny as the company scales
Technology & Process Innovation
- Identify and execute process automation opportunities that eliminate manual work, reduce errors, and free capacity for strategic work
- Champion digital transformation within finance and accounting, leveraging AI, RPA, and analytics tools to enhance capabilities
- Drive standardization and best practices across all finance processes while maintaining flexibility for business needs, including M&A integration
Team Leadership & Organizational Development
- Build, mentor, and retain a high-performing finance team with diverse skills and strong technical capabilities
- Create clear career paths and development opportunities that attract top talent and reduce turnover
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning
- Develop team members' technical and strategic skills to elevate the entire function
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Act as a strategic business partner to department heads across the organization, providing financial expertise and guidance
- Collaborate with Operations, Sales, Product, and other functions to support strategic initiatives and improve business outcomes
- Communicate complex financial concepts clearly to non-finance/accounting stakeholders at all levels
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or MBA strongly preferred
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 3 years in a Director-level leadership role; extensive experience working with services business preferred
- Deep knowledge of GAAP and internal control best practices
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks Enterprise)
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills to effectively manage a team and advise executive leadership
