Revenue Integrity Specialist
Position Summary: The Revenue Integrity Specialist ensures the integrity and accuracy of coding, billing, and reimbursement practices to prevent revenue leakage and maintain compliance with regulatory standards and revenue cycle performance. This role is focused on balancing financial sustainability with patient-centered care. By auditing, coaching, and partnering with multidisciplinary teams across the organization, this position’s primary goal is to increase revenue via preventing denials, reducing lost revenue, and creating a culture of documentation excellence.
Qualifications: Our ideal candidate for the Revenue Integrity Specialist position will maintain an Associate’s degree in Health Information Management, Business, or related field OR equivalent work experience; be a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Risk Coder (CRC), Certified Healthcare Chart Auditor (CHCA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or equivalent credential; have 2+ years of experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle operations; have knowledge of federal, state, and payer compliance regulations and have the ability to read and interpret medical documentation for billing and coding accuracy.
Preferred Experience, Licensure, Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management or related field.
- Experience with NextGen EHR/PM or other integrated EHR systems.
- Prior experience supporting revenue integrity or compliance in an outpatient integrated healthcare delivery model, federal qualified healthcare center, community mental health center or behavioral health setting.
Essential Job Functions
- Support gap closure in the healthcare revenue cycle
- Conduct audits of inpatient and outpatient accounts to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance of documentation, coding, charge capture, payer sequence, billing and claims submission
- Educate/train staff via real-time training and one-on-one support to ensure proper coding, billing and documentation practices based on audit findings.
- Facilitate feedback loops and create training resources to establish a culture of documentation excellence.
- Monitor claims, denials, and reimbursement trends to identify systemic issues and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with EHR, IT, and Revenue Cycle teams to identify, correct and simplify recurring workflow/system issues.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations to mitigate audit and penalty risks.
- Collaborate with operations, finance, compliance, and clinical leaders to align revenue integrity with patient care goals.
- Support enterprise-wide revenue cycle initiatives and policy development
- Organize, attend and present findings, initiatives, progress via data analytics to the Revenue Cycle Committee
Salary: Starting at $31.23 (Base $28.73 + $2.50 Locale differential) - $34.68 per hour (non-exempt/hourly) and considers preferred experience, preferred education described above and working onsite at a Durango location.
Remote pay range: 28.73-32.18 per hour (non-exempt/hourly) and considers preferred experience, preferred education described above.

Physical Demands: Employee must occasionally lift and/or move 15 pounds up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Employees are frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop. Must have ability to sit for longer periods at a computer. Employee must be able to travel between AHS locations. Possible potential exposure to communicable disease. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of medical billing, payer requirements, and coding practices.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teaching skills, with ability to provide constructive feedback to staff at all levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively across clinical, operational, IT, and financial teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHR systems.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing tasks and manage workflow efficiently.
- Commitment to confidentiality, compliance, and ethical standards.
Additional eligibility requirements: Annual Flu immunization, Annual TB screening, CPI training within 90 days of hire, BLS PRO certification required within 90 days of hire
