The Senior Engineer – Bespoke is responsible for the design and delivery of innovative engineering solutions to meet individual customer requests, ensuring every GMA vehicle is truly unique. The role demands exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship to exceed customer expectations.
You’ll complete all required engineering deliverables in line with GMA’s development processes – including technical specifications, DFMEAs, 2D/3D CAD, DFM reviews, engineering releases, DVP definition and project management activities, including supplier interaction. You’ll also determine business cases for bespoke features or systems, covering investment, BoM, development, and resource planning.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives on variety and precision, capable of balancing multiple bespoke projects while maintaining the highest standards of design integrity and manufacturability.
The Person
You’ll be adaptable, technically skilled, and able to react quickly to multiple bespoke project requests running to different timelines. With a strong appreciation for manufacturing considerations in a low-volume environment, you’ll ensure that bespoke features are seamlessly integrated into production without compromising quality or delivery.
You’ll be highly organised, proactive, and comfortable leading projects from concept through to delivery — collaborating closely with internal teams and suppliers to achieve exceptional results.
Key Responsibilities
- Full part and system design responsibility from concept through to delivery.
- Produce and maintain DFMEAs.
- Lead design-for-manufacture (DFM) reviews.
- Manage and support suppliers throughout project delivery.
- Lead robust issue resolution and recurrence prevention.
- Support production with the introduction of bespoke customer requests, including BoM management.
- Specify and deliver validation activities.
- Own project delivery for bespoke items – including technical solutions, weight, timing and cost.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Degree or equivalent in engineering, science, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience delivering technical products in the automotive or a related low-volume industry.
- Advanced Catia 3D and 2D CAD skills.
- Experience managing multiple projects with varying timelines.
- Strong understanding of the full product development lifecycle, from concept to production.
- Knowledge of APQP or similar quality frameworks for new model introduction.
- Ability to travel within the UK and internationally as required (majority of suppliers are UK-based).
- Organised, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement.
- Able to mentor and support the professional development of colleagues, particularly junior engineers.
