Job Summary:
The CNA will serve as the first line of action by communicating with patients to prevent unsafe behaviors and conditions. This position creates a relationship with the patient to enhance care and communication as well as streamline that care process whenever possible. CNAs may be floated to all inpatient units except for NICU & Nursery. May be floated to the Emergency Dept, Labor & Delivery, and Psych units in a sitter capacity only. Float CNAs will also function as a NOVA monitoring tech at least once per week.
This is a Full-time position. 3 shifts/week with rotating weekends, 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM (day shift) or 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (night shift).
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care to a select group of patients and advocates on their behalf. Includes:
- Bathing, dressing/undressing, toileting (bed pans, urinals), oral care, grooming, and shaving as directed by licensed nurse.
- Taking vitals, intake, and output as directed (Blood glucose monitoring, EKG).
- Feeding, collecting and providing food as guided by licensed nurse.
- Changing linens and tidying room.
- Directing visitors as needed.
- Observing &/or remote video monitoring as needed.
- Assisting with ambulation, turning, and positioning of patient.
- Provides assistance with adjunct therapies such as enemas, heat packs, ice packs, and sitz baths as needed.
- Phlebotomizes as directed and to policy.
- Assesses patients physical and psychosocial condition, with reports to licensed nurse.
- Supports and promotes hospital-wide and unit-specific goals (e.g. Planetree, Magnet, hourly rounding, etc.)
- Practices and promotes patient safety and quality of care with continual communication with licensed nurse.
- Documents pertinent information, observations, and other aspects of patient care clearly, concisely, and in a timely manner.
- Educate patients and family as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Must have one of the following:
- Active CT CNA License
- Enrolled in an accredited nursing program having completed core nursing curriculum for ADLs as part of clinical rotations
- Graduate of a foreign nursing program
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program, having failed board licensure (2 chances)
- BLS, Heart Saver, or equivalent required.
- One year of prior CNA experience preferred.
