About the Department


This position involves advanced professional planning work and serves as a key contact for development activities in the County, working both in a team environment and independently, requiring close coordination with the Director, County departments, other planning agencies, the development community, and the general public.  You’ll apply your skills and expertise to provide excellent service and ensure compliance with the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Planning and Zoning Director.

Position Duties

Bachelor's degree in geography, cartography, planning, mapping, land use, or related field and one to two years’ experience working as a property development technician, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications


  • Reviews, drafts and implements amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance, including consideration of public input and the administrative process. 
  • Oversee and guide the progression of projects through the development review process, from initial submission to the issuance of permits
  • Assists with preparing and presenting staff reports and recommendations to the Planning Board, various reports, and analysis for public hearings.
  • Assists in policy development by researching and identifying trends; organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data; and researching local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates data collection and publications by creating and coordinating geographic data and maps as necessary.
  • Manages special projects or planning efforts as needed; coordinates county planning activities with affected municipal, state, federal, and private agencies.
  • Completes zoning map amendments. 
  • Participates in long-range planning projects, including comprehensive and small area plans, as needed.
  • Edits Planning Department GIS datasets.
  • Manually updates parcel ownership or parcel splits and mergers based on new deeds being recorded.
  • Aids Addressing Coordinator as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
