Rolling Stone, the leading voice of popular culture for more than 50 years, is looking for a production coordinator to aid our award-winning Art Department into the next 50 years.
Join our fun, fast-paced, talented, Art Department as a production manager, to manage the production process for the print edition of the magazine, support our digital operation, and coordinate with some of our most important outside partners. Reporting to the creative director, and working closely with the Art Department staff, the ideal candidate is organized, detail oriented, cares about quality control, and enjoys working in a team environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing the closing process by ensuring pages are reviewed, approved, tracked, and organized. Assist in making corrections on layouts during closing to ensure highest quality design.
- Conducting preflight checks in InDesign before creating final high-resolution pdfs.
- Conducting preflight checks in Adobe Acrobat on final high-resolution pdfs.
- Uploading final pdfs to printing plant FTP site and liaising with plant’s staff to assure shipping is complete and to troubleshoot when necessary.
- Packaging all layouts and images for delivery to our various partners including Apple News+, international editions, etc.
- Creating full-issue web-book pdfs.
- Flowing text into InDesign layouts and starting workflow in our K4 publishing system. Communicating word counts in layouts to editors.
- Coordinating and tracking the flow of high-resolution images to our imaging specialist and adding production notes for color correction.
- Assist with moving stories through editorial rounds when necessary.
- Manage production of special-interest-publication reprints, including working with freelance designers and outside vendors.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of proven experience in print production, preferably in a publishing or fast-paced agency environment. A proven track record of quality control on deadline.
- High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, InCopy, Acrobat, Photoshop,
and Illustrator). - Experience with PDF profiles.
- Experience with the K4 publishing system is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to multitask under pressure and shift priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to effectively interact at all levels of the organization.
- Flexibility regarding work hours as they are driven by daily status of the closing process
- This position spans 7 business days per issue.
Week 1: Thursday - Friday
Week 2: Monday-Friday
This position is paid $3,000 per issue.
