This position oversees cashiering and coordinates campus housing operations within Culinary Services. Responsibilities include managing cashier functions such as student cashier supervision and training, deposit reconciliation, and financial reporting. As the Event/Housing Supervisor, this role coordinates summer housing logistics, employee apartment and loft rentals, room assignments, and check-in/check-out processes using applicable housing and event management systems. The position ensures accurate recordkeeping, professional customer service, and effective communication with campus partners while supporting the overall success of Culinary Services operations.

The posted wage represents CSB and SJU's good faith estimate of likely compensation at the time of posting. Actual pay will be dependent upon several factors, including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills, and may fall outside of the range indicated.

Position Duties

Cashier Supervisor

  • Coordinate point-of-sale systems, ensuring accurate operation, training, support, data collection and equipment needs.

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise cashiers, including student workers.

  • Provide ongoing training and guidance to ensure consistent, high-quality customer service and accurate transaction handling.

  • Serve as a cashier as needed to support daily operations.

  • Manage cash and credit transactions, cash funds, and deposits for multiple dining and retail operations.

  • Reconcile cash drawers, prepare and record daily deposits, and maintain accurate financial and transaction records.

  • Compile and interpret financial data to support departmental reporting and decision-making.

  • Assist with meal plan administration and related account maintenance.

  • Troubleshoot point-of-sale issues and coordinate resolution or procedural updates.

  • Ensure compliance with established policies and best practices for cash handling and loss prevention.

  • Provide professional, customer-focused service to students, employees, and guests.

Campus Event Housing

  • Manage campus housing logistics, including loft and employee apartment rentals, and accommodations for summer programming and event guests.

  • Coordinate room assignments, occupancy records, and check-in/check-out processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

  • Maintain accurate documentation related to housing contracts, billing, and assignments.

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for loft rentals, employee apartments, and summer guest housing.

  • Provide timely, professional responses to inquiries from students, staff, and external guests.

  • Collaborate with facilities and maintenance teams to address repair, cleaning, and setup needs that support housing operations.

  • Assist with supervision, scheduling, and training of student staff assigned to summer housing operations.

  • Utilize applicable housing and event management systems to maintain records and support operational processes.

Other Duties

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with campus departments, constituents, and external partners through regular communication and participation in meetings.

  • Provide departmental office support including reporting, distribution of reports, etc.  

  • Assist with other Culinary Services operations as needed to support departmental goals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.  

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma

  • One or more years of experience with event planning/coordination or office support preferred.

  • One or more years of experience with cash handling and/or cashier experience preferred.

  • Strong communication skills, including oral, written, and interpersonal abilities to foster collaborative and effective working relationships.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

  • Excellent customer service, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong multitasking skills with high attention to detail.

  • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend event coverage as required. Typical schedule is between the hours of 8:00am-4:30pm Monday thru Friday.  Summer hours may include working four days per week. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires working at a computer for extended periods, including typing, reading from a screen, and using various software programs essential for the role.

  • Occasionally required to lift or move items up to 20 pounds.

  • This role requires mobility across campus facilities.  

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional travel between the campuses of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University.
