The Palmer Civil Division of the Alaska Court System is accepting applications for a Court Case Manager 1 (salary range 10). This position will process small claims and civil case documents, and assist with jury and front counter matters.
* Employees working in this job classification will be considered for annual salary increases upon successful completion of a 1-year probationary period. This job classification will promote to range 11 after successful completion of three years of service with the court.
The Position
The Court Case Manager 1 is responsible for performing a wide range of clerical and administrative duties to support the Small Claims Division. This position involves processing cases from initiation to completion, including issuing summons and subpoenas, scheduling trial dates, notifying parties, and maintaining accurate case records. The incumbent reviews motions, prepares judgments for judicial signature, updates the case management system, and ensures all actions are completed in a timely manner. Close collaboration with judges and their staff is required to manage hearings, review orders, and maintain organized case files.
The role also involves extensive interaction with the public, responding to inquiries both in person and over the phone, providing procedural information, and performing substantial data entry. Accuracy, efficiency, and professionalism are essential as the clerk manages sensitive and time-sensitive court documents.
As a backup Jury Clerk, the incumbent assists in administering jury operations, including qualifying and excusing jurors, updating records in JuryView, preparing jury panels, communicating with jurors, and maintaining related statistics and reports.
In the capacity of backup Counter Clerk, the incumbent assists the public with file requests, case filings, and document certification, receives payments for various court fees and fines, and responds to procedural questions that do not require legal advice. This position requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining accuracy and excellent customer service.
The Work Hours
This position is scheduled to work 37.5 hours per week. The work hours for this position are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break.

Position Duties
Graduation from high school or completion of a General Education Development (GED) certificate AND one year of office clerical experience.
Substitution:
Additional office clerical work experience will substitute for the high school diploma or GED certificate on a month-for-month basis.
Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
Completion of an appropriate vocational training course of study such as legal secretary, paralegal, or office skills will substitute for the required office clerical experience on a month-for-month basis.
