How You’ll Make a Difference (Essential Functions)
The Supervisor, Grief Services is responsible for providing bereavement support to individuals, families and children who have experienced a loss due to death; in accordance with accepted Agrace Standards of Practice. This position supervises the Grief Center and takes a leadership role in directing both the physical space and the methods and styles of grief /bereavement support provided throughout Agrace. This position also serves as the Bereavement Coordinator for Agrace.
Key Responsibilities
- Grief Support Services
- Facilitate Agrace grief support groups
- Facilitate groups or individualized support for school-aged children in the school setting
- Provide individual and group grief support for grieving community members, including those served by Agrace hospice.
- Provide consultation and education to community groups, faith communities, hospitals, and appropriate educational institutions as requested
- Respond to grief support requests, assess level of need, and make appropriate referrals to other resources as appropriate
- Supervision of Grief Center
- Create and maintain annual grief support group and grief event calendar, consisting of scheduling, assigning facilitators, requesting volunteers, and reserving space
- Ensure group participants have completed the required paperwork prior to participation
- Document attendance as necessary
- Train new grief group co-facilitator volunteers and Spiritual Grief Counselors
- Maintain wait lists for grief groups and events
- Work with external partners to develop agreements/contracts to encourage participation
- Respond to and facilitate student requests
- Spiritual and Grief Services (Bereavement) Coordination
- Ensures provision of spiritual and grief services and activities meet the identified needs of Agrace patients and families in alignment with Agrace policies, procedure and expectations.
- Collaborates with all levels of leadership to ensure that quality patient care is consistently delivered in accordance with agency guidelines and state and federal regulations. Assesses and monitors documentation to assure compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensures development, implementation, updating and adherence to standards of practice, forms, policies and procedures that are consistent with Agrace philosophy.
- Staff Supervision
- Assign and direct the bereavement work of Spiritual Grief Counselors
- Provide direct supervision to any staff, including but not limited to coaching and mentoring, chart reviews, progress reviews, skills assessments and annual performance evaluations.
- Maintain accountability for approving time sheets and PTO requests; monitor overtime usage.
- Assess educational needs of team; facilitates the necessary development and incorporates knowledge into current practice.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, and retention of the best-qualified staff; assign preceptors and actively participate in the orientation of new staff on team.
- Other Duties
- Participate in internal work groups, meetings and committees relative to position responsibilities.
- Collaborate across the organization with other departments
- Serve as the primary contact for the Grief Center in all major outreach, marketing, and coordination functions
- Participate in development of annual budget
- Develop content and programming to meet needs of the Agency and Community bereaved
You Bring (Qualifications)
- Master’s degree in Social Work or Counseling, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 5 years’ counseling experience, preferred
- Valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle
- Two to three years supervisory experience preferred
- Experience providing counseling in both a group and individual setting
- Experience working with Grief as related to loss
- Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others
- Experience using industry specific software
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Ability to be flexible in time and task to meet organizational needs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality about patients, families, caregivers, staff, donors, and organizational intellectual propert
- Ability to work at various Agrace locations.
- Ability to use proper body mechanics and standard precautions
