PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Director, Data Strategy and Warehousing oversees the data warehousing teams for enterprise Jefferson. This role will be in charge of strategic direction, architecture, governance and compliance of the organization’s data ecosystem built upon a Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric framework. This individual must be an experienced technical leader with the ability to manage multiple teams of resources developing projects concurrently. In addition to technical development, this role requires the ability for executive communication and education regarding the data warehousing environment for the enterprise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Designs a data strategy that includes the implementation and expansion of a Microsoft Fabric foundation at Jefferson. This includes data engineering and warehousing solutions for ingestion, integration and curation of data to deliver on business and stakeholder needs. Provide executive oversight of the organization’s data estate, ensuring scalability, security, and interoperability across clinical, research, and administrative domains.
- Lead technical teams to apply and refine established development standards and coordinates teams of Data Engineers, Data Modelers, Integration Architects, ETL Developers across multiple projects.
- Collaborates closely with business leaders, internal and external stakeholders to define new solutions that support strategic business priorities.
- Leads the implementation of a data governance model that will allow for continued future growth for the enterprise. This includes working toward the development of data owners, stewards and meta data management.
- Develop team processes to ensure seamless integration of data across the enterprise and drives automation in the goal of self-service analytics solutions. Directs the development of large scale data structures and pipelines to organize, collect, and standardize data that helps generate insights and addresses reporting needs
- Provides leadership training and guidance to managers and associated team members to foster a culture of data literacy, innovation, and accountability across the organization.
- Keeps abreast of technology and innovation in all relevant areas
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the iSCORE values of Jefferson.
OTHER FUNCTIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Collaborates closely with business users and stakeholders to define data for the design, development, and deployment of new solutions that support strategic business priorities.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field along with 10 years of experience with: Data Engineering, Data Warehouse architecture, ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes
- 5 years progressive leadership experience in data strategy, architecture or governance
- Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure data services and Microsoft Fabric.
- Proven experience managing large-scale data estates in complex, regulated environments.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a related field or MBA.
- 5+ years progressive leadership experience in data strategy and governance
- Certifications in Azure architecture, data governance, or cybersecurity.
- Experience in academic medical centers, healthcare systems, or federally funded research institutions.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
At least five years of Data Engineering and Data Warehousing work experience
At least three years of significant experience with Microsoft Azure
Must be able to balance technical and resource management responsibilities in a very fast-paced environment.
