Job Description Summary

Provides guidance to financial aid and Veteran Affairs (VA) applicants and their families throughout the student financial aid application process. Supports students through initial and ongoing student contact, ensuring financial aid and other sources of aid is secured, and guides families to complete all required documents for financial aid programs. Serves as a first point of contact for the Financial Aid Office.

Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Responsibilities may evolve based on organizational needs, and similar or related tasks may be assigned as necessary. Management reserves the right to assign additional duties as required.

  • Serves as the first contact point in the office, handling incoming calls/emails and greeting visitors in order to disseminate information and answer general questions relating to the financial aid process, financial aid programs and services available to students and families.
  • Assists students and families in completing necessary documents required for financial aid applications, to include; verification, loans and scholarships.
  • Assists with processing incoming documents for veteran affairs (VA) GI Bill.
  • Maintains accurate student documents in cumulative electronic files.
  • Prepares mailings of application materials, t racking letters, scholarship notifications and other bulk mailings to students.
  • Coordinates daily work tasks for student employees.
  • Performs clerical duties as necessary including electronic filing, word processing and data entry.
  • Assists office staff and the Director with key projects and other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain organized and highly productive while under pressure and stress as well as manage emotional situations and difficult people.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn rules and regulations within the Federal and State of Florida student financial assistance programs.
  • Must be able to use computer, monitor, and keyboard on a continuous basis to perform job duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with an array of computer systems and databases such as Microsoft Office and financial aid management systems (e.g. PowerFAIDS, Workday, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and ability to use good judgment and discretion for dealing effectively with a wide variety of individuals, including students and their parents, faculty, staff and outside agencies.
  • Proven ability to create memos, letters, publications and other documents.
  • Ability to supervise the work of student workers.
  • Must present a professional appearance.
  • Ability to work regular established hours of operation and additional hours as business necessitates.

Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years’ experience in an office environment                                                                                                      

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in student financial aid
