The Boeing CompanyBoeing Defense, Space, & Security (BDS) is seeking a motivated and talented Survivability Systems Engineer/Scientist for ESS (Lead or Senior) to join the team located in El Segundo, CA. The Experienced Survivability Systems Engineer/Scientist supports multidisciplinary survivability tasks through all satellite program phases.
The Survivability group is a multidisciplinary department which analyzes vehicles for Space Environmental disciplines such as: Contamination, Micrometeoroid, Single Event Effects, Radiation, Electro Magnetic Compatibility, Electrostatic discharge, test and qualification of new materials, etc. As part of the Survivability team the candidate will get the opportunity to apply an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to assist with analyses, design, development and verification of a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions.
Position Responsibilities:
Collaborate effectively with various technical disciplines in a team environment to balance factors such as survivability, cost, weight, and technical risk in the final design.
Execute and oversee the analysis and testing of material, units, subsystem and system performance in simulated space environments. Including but not limited to radiation-related effects such as total dose (including ELDRS and dose rate effects), displacement damage, single event effects, internal ESD charging, Micrometeoroid and Orbital Debris, On-orbit contamination analysis.
Plan and conduct testing at the piece part, slice, unit, and vehicle levels to support design and verify compliance with survivability-related requirements.
This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with spacecraft design, analysis, fabrication and test
Experience with space environmental effects
Ability to travel 25% of the time (approximately once a month).
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Master’s degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience with survivability related technologies such as CAD, space environments, radiation effects, device physics or multi-physics computer simulation, contamination control, on-orbit contamination analysis
Experience in analysis tools (i.e., Thermal Desktop, MATLAB, MATHCAD, ANSYS, COMSOL).

Summary pay range for Lead: $128,350 - $173,650
Summary pay range for Senior: $157,250 - $212,750
