Software Engineer-1

Research and Development Software Engineer

Location: Leeds/London/Dublin

What’s the role about:

At Flutter Group, we design, build, and run a world-class global sports betting platform for the largest online betting company in the world. Our technology powers sports betting for over 20 in-house brands and B2B customers, running 24/7, 365 days a year, across the globe.

We’re looking for Software Engineers to join our Research and Development team within Global Sportsbook and Trading. Our Sports and Trading platform is already an industry leader—generating, pricing, distributing and managing the risk on nearly one million sports events per year—but we’re always pushing to do better. We are always innovating, always challenging ourselves. The R&D team’s challenge is to explore new technologies and the value they can bring, to help shape the future of sports betting technology.

What you’ll be working on:

Sports betting is a fast-paced, highly competitive industry. Key focus areas with GST include:

  • Generating exciting betting opportunities for our customers, staying ahead of our competitors.
  • Generating accurate pricing, and liability management tools to protect our business.
  • Building the best in class tech stack that delivers both, while continuously scaling and evolving with the business.

The R&D team will explore modern technologies in the context of solving real business challenges for the GST team. We will deliver real insights on the potential value of these technologies that enable informed decisions on our tech strategy.

Is this you?

  • You love to innovate and experiment with new technologies.

  • You start by understanding problems from multiple perspectives
  • You’re highly motivated and manage your own time well
  • You understand that it’s the value you create and what you contribute that matters, not how long you spend working
  • You have the confidence to ask a question, that you know others want answered.
  • You expect others to show trust in you, but you understand it works both ways
  • You’re an empowered, pragmatic decision-maker who balances risk against rewards
  • You take pride in and demonstrate ownership for what you deliver

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and execution of research experiments that will inform the GST future roadmap
  • Document and interpret complex research findings to answer critical business questions.
  • Effectively communicate within the team and also showcase the team’s research within the department
  • Adhere to the teams standards in terms of engineering practices and code quality, maintainability and testability.
  • Show eagerness to learn new tools & technologies
  • Be flexible to changing requirements and priorities, while managing own task list and time
  • Be a team player – put the team above the individual and take responsibility for the team’s reputation
  • Troubleshoot and debug experimental processes
  • Contribute to the on-going evolution and continuous improvement of the team
  • Comply with all data security and governance requirements within the organisation.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelors/Master's degree in computer science, engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • Including experience in Python coding or comparable programming languages
  • Experience in a start-up environment or research focused area is a bonus.
