Job Title: Microbiological Safety Risk Assessment Lead
Location: Colworth Science Park, UK – Hybrid
JOB PURPOSE
As the Microbiology Risk Assessment Lead in our Safety, Environmental & Regulatory (SERS) team, you will take the lead on the Microbiology team capability build and management of their resource to ensure delivery of the Work programme and the development of the team in line with Unilever and SERS needs. You will also be providing your microbiological risk assessment expertise to lead/support the delivery of complex and novel and their applications to assure the microbiological safety of Unilever’s innovations and products (Personal Care, Beauty & Wellbeing, Home Care & Foods).
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Line management responsibilities for 7 individuals.
- Work with Programme/Project Leads to identify core and future skills needs and, capacity issues and strategies to address these.
- Use the above to define and evolve the Microbiology skills and expertise development plans as well as resourcing strategy to meet the need short and long-term needs of the organisation.
- Create opportunities and encourage team members to share their expertise and skills with others.
- Ensure new science and novel tools are confidently and effectively deployed.
- Provide support and development mechanisms to ensure the rigour and robustness of assessments.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders internal and external to Unilever, e.g. business partners, academic partners.
- As a microbiology expert, deliver transparent, well-documented microbiological risk assessments to SERS project teams (including more complex ones such as AMR/microbiome) to enable robust decision-making and communicate the outcomes internally and to business partners, providing guidance on risk management where necessary.

- You’ll need to be able to work effectively and with impact in cross-disciplinary teams and in multi-cultural environments, be flexible and willing to adapt within a fast-changing business environment.
We would expect the successful candidate to have:
- Extensive experience of delivering complex safety microbiological risk assessments in SERS.
- Experience of managing people and team and motivating others, preferably as Line Manager.
- Proven experience in leading scientific research projects/sub-project.
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
- High self-motivation, with the ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams.

Recruitment Fraud
Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
