SUMMARY:  

The Legal Intern is responsible for providing comprehensive and responsive paralegal, administrative, and clerical support to the General Counsel while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.   

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES, IN PRIORITY ORDER:  The Legal Intern is responsible for a wide range of complex and confidential paralegal, administrative and operational tasks. The intern must demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, a very high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and take care to insure the security and privacy of confidential information.

Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform legal research, analysis and summary of various issues affecting day to day business of banking;
  • Process various legal notices received by the Bank;
  • Participate in strategy discussions to resolve issues involving customers, vendors, etc.;
  • Provide assistance as needed ranging from setting up meetings and appointments, drafting legal letters, proofing documents, returning phone calls, updating contacts lists, and managing legal projects as requested;
  • Handle information of a confidential nature, such as Company information, for various purposes;
  • Manage the Bank’s insurance administration and process claims;
  • Assist the General Counsel and Legal Manager on various projects and matters as needed.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:  High functioning individual with sound judgment.  Must be able to coordinate and juggle many activities at once, consistently follow instructions, ask pertinent questions, prioritize and re-prioritize, meet strict deadlines consistently, be extremely accurate, and handle very sensitive and confidential data in a discreet manner.  Demonstrate ability to anticipate General Counsel’s needs and to initiate projects and operational duties in advance.  Ability to work both independently and in a team environment. Strong critical thinking skills.  Must have cyber security awareness to protect the Bank and the Bank’s customers.

 

Qualifications:

  • An overall GPA of 3.5 is strongly preferred, along with a 18 business related credits
  • Preference will be given to students who are entering their Junior and Senior year of college
  • Preference will be given to Cape Cod residents or those with housing arrangements already in place on Cape Cod.
  • Strong analytical and computer skills, as well as the ability to communicate well with both verbally and in writing are essential
  • Previous employment experience in a bank, accounting or finance environment is preferred
  • Strong customer service skills and experience preferred
  • Must have cyber security awareness to protect the digital environment, the Bank, and customers.
