FLSA:                  Non-Exempt

Reports To:       Ambulatory Care Nurse Manager 

Supervises:       This position does not supervise any other employees

Salary Range:   $62,000.00 - $66,000.00


Job Summary

Greater Baden Medical Services, an FQHC dedicated to delivering high-quality healthcare, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to serve as a Vaccine for Children (VFC) Coordinator & Pediatric Nurse. This role ensures compliance with the VFC program across three pediatric clinics and provides nursing care to support efficient, patient-centered care. The LPN functions as a clinical resource to ensure that medical services are delivered in a safe and efficient manner, addressing patient needs as expeditiously as possible. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of clinical expertise, program coordination skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service delivery and compliance

Key Responsibilities

Vaccine for Children (VFC) Program Coordination:

  • Serve as the VFC Program Coordinator, ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations across three pediatric clinics.
  • Conduct regular VFC program audits to verify adherence to inventory management, storage, handling, and record-keeping standards.
  • Oversee vaccine storage and handling processes, including temperature monitoring and emergency protocols.
  • Order, receive, and track VFC vaccine inventory to prevent shortages or overstocking.
  • Train clinical and administrative staff on VFC program requirements, including eligibility screening, documentation, and proper vaccine administration.
  • Prepare and submit required reports to state and federal agencies accurately and on time.
  • Act as the primary liaison for VFC program updates, inspections, and communications with regulatory bodies.
  • Assists with providing immunizations to patients and participates in vaccine clinics
  • Provides education to staff and parents regarding the importance of immunizations and addresses any barriers to vaccination that arise

Clinical Nursing

  • Serves as a clinical team leader and resource and provides input of day-to-day clinical activities working closely with the center manager.  
  • Provides recommendation to Center Manager for administrative and corrective actions of Clinical Medical Assistants.
  • Provides health teaching and counseling to patients and families.  This may include communication of test results, medication changes, etc.
  • Assesses patient requests for same day services and works with Clinicians and Center Manager to ensure that patient needs are addressed appropriately.
  • Expedites patient flow through the implementation of standing orders or policies for medication refills, referrals, and immunizations.        Ensures that Clinical Medical Assistants are familiar with standing order protocols and follow them appropriately.
  • Oversees laboratory services, including review of quality control, oversight of inventory and record keeping.  Ensures that supplies are stored properly.        Supervises specimen collection process and in-house testing, and educates staff regarding proper technique and current recommendations.
  • Participates in the maintenance of medication and medical supply inventory, including monthly expiration process.
  • Assists with providing ongoing clinical education, including competency testing and training consistent with GBMS needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Manage prior authorization requests for pediatric prescriptions, ensuring timely submission and resolution.
  • Collaborate with providers, pharmacies, and insurance companies to resolve prescription-related barriers.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all prescription authorization activities within the electronic medical records (EMR) system.
  • Communicate prescription authorization statuses to providers and patients as needed.
  • Monitors and assists with improving quality measures related to pediatrics
  • Completes additional duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Active LPN license in the state of Maryland.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably in pediatrics or an FQHC.
  • Knowledge of VFC program requirements and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred:

  • Certified in vaccine administration and handling.
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred.
  • Experience with prescription authorization and prior authorization workflows.

Work Environment 

This position requires travel between three pediatric clinics. The role operates in a clinical setting with regular use of standard office and medical equipment.
