Job Summary
Works under the supervision of the director to incorporate the primary components of expert clinical practice. Promotes an error free care environment, acts as a research advocate, provides consultation and education, and assures the provision of quality nursing care to a defined group of patients. Supports and upholds system's mission, vision, values and guiding behaviors, Patient Bill of Rights, and the Code of Business and Ethical Conduct.
Job Specific Duties
- Creates overview for feeding plan of care (POC) with patients and families, reviews all information and communicates with multidisciplinary team.
- Provides clinical support to Aventura and Naples outpatient neurosurgery clinics. Reviews clinic lists and makes adjustments and ensures rooms are ready per infection control standards.
- Completes health physical inventory (HPI) and physical assessment of all patients, reviews need for rehabilitation PT/OT/ST, suture removal and assists with procedures.
- Ensures patient is safely transported to all areas within the hospital for procedures and/or admissions. Provides support to LPN to efficiently manage flow of patients during the shift.
- Completes office hand off by providing critical information to residents when Neurosurgery office is closed.
- Monitors and coordinates flow of clinical work to provide the optimum patient/family experience.
- Reviews all intakes and ensures patient is appropriate for Neurosurgery. Ensures all clinical information is obtained.
- Educates the family and patient regarding diagnosis and implication; provides authorization, surgical pre-op and post-op education, and follows up to obtain diagnostic results.
- Maintains educational resources, references, and booklets for clinical staff, patients, and families.
- Maintains interactions with outside agencies (i.e. steering committee for PUSH!, Global Alliance, etc.).
- Maintains, creates, and updates educational resources, references, booklets, diagrams, posters, and journal articles to help educate parents and broaden reach of the service line.
- Identifies and facilitates patient enrollment for research studies; completes forms as needed.
- Documents within the scope of practice all Electronic Medical Record meaningful use required fields in an effort to optimize utilization.
- Enters orders for imaging (verified by patient provider) to expedite scheduling process.
- Promotes an “error free” working environment by consistently providing high-quality safe care as prompted.
- Participates in monthly research meetings with multidisciplinary team.
- Adheres to all regulatory requirements of the DNV/GL, CMS, DOH and any other accreditation agencies in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
- Participates in Lean initiative to improve processes for opportunities to deliver higher quality, cost effective care, with greater customer service, & which impact can be measured by way of metrics.
- Utilizes Lean methodology to improve the family experience in the Brain Institute. Actively involved in continuously improving the patient experience and service recovery process.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
- RN - Registered Nurse Licensure within the State of Florida or Multi-State Enhanced Nursing License Compact (eNLC) – maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- American Heart Association BLS must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment
- 4-7 years Clinical RN experience
- Pediatric Neurosurgery experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Nursing experience in a pediatrics hospital is preferred.
- Strong customer service, problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and strong time management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately and timely.
- Ability to navigate and effectively utilize electronic health record.
- Ability to perform the duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Care Act, ANA Code of Ethics, and
- Standards of Practice and Performance.
- Work collaboratively and follow the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Nursing Leader.
