                                                                           POSITION SUMMARY      Advanced Mechanic         

The Maintenance Mechanic A is responsible for conducting machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs and preventive maintenance on a variety of production equipment. Level A has advance mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot complex problems including knowledge of machines and tools, their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work independently, while effectively managing and executing multiple tasks, projects, and priorities based on constantly changing production needs and/or requirements.
  • Maintain, analyze, troubleshoot, install and repair complex, specialized machines and equipment in accordance with established manufacturing procedures to achieve efficiency, quality and optimum production objectives.
  • Adhere strictly to NNBC’s Lock out/Tag out policies.
  • Create material lists, PM’s, basic sketches.  
  • Fabricate parts/guarding needed to repair equipment.
  • Perform root cause analysis, compare and investigate information and recommend and implement resolution.
  • Inspect, operate or test faulty machinery, equipment, programmable controllers and motors to diagnose machine malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and apply knowledge of the functional operation of machinery. 
  • Perform and complete projects assigned by supervision/management and communicate ongoing progress.
  • Conduct predictive and preventative maintenance initiatives and use independent judgment to interpret and apply work guidelines with considerable latitude to specific situations. 
  • Perform root cause analysis, compare and investigate information, and recommend and implement resolution.
  • Level A may have the responsibility to mentor and train the lower level maintenance mechanic employees and provide supervision on various duties.
  • Work with electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems to conduct trouble shooting and repair of production

                      equipment.     

  • Set up and operate lathe, drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Use cutting torch and welding equipment as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, or repairing equipment to detect and prevent problems to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly and operate efficiently.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, manuals, and mechanic and electrical schematics.
  • Perform routine tasks, such as lubrication of machinery, seal replacement, cleaning of parts during repair, adjusting valves and seals, investigating breakdowns, removing and replacing motors, starters, relays, limit switches, fuses, primary control components.
  • Communicate time frame for repairs to operators, department supervisors, and/or management.
  • Order/install parts from MRO.
  • Create, update, & complete SRO’s for work performed and materials used/required.
  • Maintain work area and equipment in clean and orderly fashion, observing safety procedures and rules.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for assignments, machine repairs, parts inventory, and maintenance logs.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED).

Experience:

2 plus years of experience in Maintenance within a production environment.

Certifications:

LOTO authorized training required.

Other Requirements:

Ability to read blueprints.
 PLC knowledge a plus.
 Knowledge of electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics required.  

Knowledge of general machine shop practice required.

Basic PC skills – Microsoft Outlook, Excel,  Word

Welding experience preferred.
